That's what emoticons are for - as you say, tis the internet, and we can't know everything about your history.

Congrats on beating the cancer though , whilst I'd personally say there's nothing funny about cancer (my mother had it) I guess if you've gone through the mill you can joke about it. But it's handy to give some clues in bare text otherwise you'll get misunderstood, as per this example...

If I had to choose it would be black for me. A friend has a white one and is constantly checking it over to make sure it's clean. I don't think I could handle that.
