Is this the same as Windoze re-set to earlier time, and if it is, is it Ok for a numpty like me to use it?

I've been having problems with Farmville (yes, I know I'm sad) locking up and was wondering if re-setting to a month ago would clear it?

Ni, I don't think it will reset to an earlier time. It allows you to 'go back in time' in a folder, etc, to retrieve documents that were there.

Time machine does a backup every hour. You can restore your computer to any date you wish. Or if you prefer you can just find old files that you need if you have deleted them.

So, does going back in time get rid of glitches like the windoze one does? and if so, how do you go back to an earlier setting?

I think so, I am no expert. I have for example had a problem with my itunes library, I knew it was ok the day before, so restored it to then and everything was fine.

So how do you go back you an earlier time?

There's nothing on the "help" page that tells you how.

You go to whatever folder you think the file is..

"Oh, bugger, where has it gone?" A serach finds nothing, so you hit the time machine button. This then gives you a screen where you can run it 'back in time' and find the file that WAS in there... Job done.! Really nicely done, in my opinion.

Looks like this, and you can move the stack back, and forwards...

Sorry, I think you're missing the point. I haven't lost a file, folder or anything, I want to set the whole shebang back a couple of months, which was quite easy to do on windows, but time machine doesn't give any clues on how to do it on a Mac.

Sorry if I'm being stoopid.

Once you're in Time Machine (as pictured above) don't you just go to the backup nearest when you want to restore to, click "restore" and follow the instructions?

Yes! You basically say "Everything was fine on X date so that's where I want to go back to" Hey presto Time Machine takes you to that point in time and you just move forward from there. Piss easy really. I bought a Time Capsule last week and set this all up in about 5 minutes... very easy, very cool!!

Nope. Told you I was stoopid. When I put "time" it goes to setting the clock, which is fine.

Have you got Time Machine set up on your Mac?

Go to Finder -> Applications -> Time Machine. If it is set up you should get the screen as posted by Blue Meanie above. Then use the controls on the right to go back to whenever you want.

However, I suspect that since you're struggling to find Time Machine you haven't set it up. wink

No, I've got Time Machine on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. Circular clock-type thing with an anti-clockwise arrow on the face. When I click it, it goes to a screen with a switch "off" on the left, "on" on the right.

It then goes to choose back up disc, If I then clock on the icon, it goes to set up time capsule. I don't want a time capsule, I want to revert to an earlier setting, I think. But I can't find how to do it.

Sorry if I appear to be wasting your time, but I'm just going round in circles and I don't want to do anything to bugger the thing up, because I'm not at all "techie".
