Try clearing battery stats.

Turn phone off.

Hold down volume up + home + power until a menu is displayed (recovery menu)

Use the volume keys to move down to advanced and press home to select.

Hopefully that will take you to another menu which contains clear or wipe battery stats. Choose it. You'll have to confirm.

Once you have use the power button to go back until you see the option to reboot. Select it reboot.

Once its rebooted charge device fully and then see if it helps.

If that doesn't help then you may need to try a factory reset using the same method. Be aware you'll lose all your apps and data from the phone if you do this

Just got mine. What a fantastic phone.

The "Tasker" App is absolutely awesome, and as said previously, simply has no alternative for the iPhone.

So far, i've used it to do the following :

My Phone turns on/off the wifi automatically when i enter/leave home.

Silences itself automatically based on the MAC address of a the wireless access points in our meeting rooms (i'm not connected to the wifi, merely the fact the phone can see it!).

Un-silences itself based on the fact that the wifi signal is >7 at my desk from the access point in my office.

Automatically sends SWMBO a txt when i'm driving past a certain point so she knows i'm nearly at her work to pick her up. (based on the fact that i connect to a certain cell tower, but can also be done via gps position. limited to mon-fri 4pm-6pm)

Only turns GPS on when i launch specific apps.

Launches RAC traffic app when my alarm goes off. (limited to 6am-8am mon-fri).

Have a look!! I think you can get a trial, but i just plumped up the £3.99 from the market.

The GS2's screen is most definitely glass.
Furry muff, why does it scratch so much easier then?
I have to say that this surprises me - what are you doing with your phone?
After 4-5 months of very heavy use (constantly in and out of jeans pockets, putting down on tables), during which I have been too lazy to get screen protectors, my GS2 screen only takes a light rub over with a tissue to look like brand new from all angles.

This is my experience as well. No case or protectors, the only thing I do do is have one pocket as a phone only pocket but apart from that nothing else special.

Nothing worse than the iPhone got, and I look after my stuff.

Ive noticed that because the camera sits proud of the case on the back that really has got scratched to buggery, stupid design that.

In actual fact, the strange thing about this is that the iPhone and GS2 both use Gorilla Glass - so there would be equal resistance to scratching. I have to say that I 100% agree on the camera point - it seems like such a poor piece of design, necessitating a case of some description. Again, lazy me didn't get one yet, and it seems ok.

If you get the official 2000mAh battery then you get a replacement battery cover where, once fitted, the camera ends up being very slightly recessed.

Does running Tasker not rinse your battery? GPS must be on all the time, surely, or else how does it trigger the location based stuff?

I have the extended battery and it does help protect as you've said. The phone feels a bit better with the bigger battery and it is no thicker than with the standard one.

Location can be via cell tower, gps or wifi. GPS is a heavy drain, which is why I have mine to only come on when I launch certain apps. Tasker hardly uses any battery if you use it sensibly, obviously asking it to do loads of stuff based on gps location all day would be a drain.

Que?

How can it not be thicker, yet thicker at the same time?

biggrin

I think what he means is that, as standard, the battery cover is recessed (i.e. the bottom bit and camera stick out). With the extended battery, that this is no longer the case, as it brings the battery cover to the same width as the bottom bit and protects the lens slightly.

I'm curious as to how much better the battery life is with the extended battery - I've heard some reports that the battery life with the extended battery is actually better than you might believe from the paper specs?

If it adds more heft to the phone and increases battery life - which can't be hard it's awful - it sounds like win win to me.

Seems to me Samsung knobbled the phones battery life and tactility in the vain attempt to be the 'thinnest' phone, which is a relatively pointless escapade when the phone is so tall and wide anyway!

This is what I meant but didn't put boxedin

IIRC the claim for the thinnest phone was measured at the thickest point.

It wasn't, it was its thinnest point which is why they lost as there's thicker bits on the phone!

Ah well, didn't buy it for it's thinness.

I must say that, despite considering myself a relatively heavy user, I have few complaints about the stock battery.
In a typical day I will either watch a film on the 30min bus ride to work (or listen to music if I'm cycling), have it connected to the office wifi all day sending texts/whatsapp, while all the time email, weather and news/sport widgets are regularly updating, then I'll probably use it again on my journey home, and call/text/whatsapp in the evenings. All of this leaves it typically in the 30-40% battery range when I come to plug it in at night.

What do others do with theirs?

You sound like me smile. That sounds like a fairly typical day for me too. And last night it had just over 40% when i plugged it in at 11pm. I usually unplug it about 7am ish.

Mine would be dead by lunchtime if I tried that trick.

Everything off and virtually zero use all day = 50% drop is battery life.

Watching a film would kill the battery in double quick time.
