Yours looks great Ray, perhaps slightly more modern without the two tone panels. The wiring harness looks in good shape and there are no electrical gremlins. Mines a May ‘94 registered. Any more pics of yours? I’ll get some more posted up soon....

I suspect the colour coded plastics came in on the 95 MY, big changes the following yr with CAN bus electronics.

New roof being fitted @ the SL shop earlier this yr

I think the colour coded plastics could be specified as mine is Brilliant silver on Brilliant silver on the build sheet.

Yes, so I believe. It's the only thing rendering tolerable the fact that some herbert repainted all the Atlas Grey Sacco panels on my car in Brilliant Silver. I need to get the whole thing properly painted at some point.

Nice ones are getting rarer. My 20yr old nipper managed to write his 500 off yesterday. Very sad as it is a 2 owner car in superb condition. BUT he's ok. Glad he was in this and not his Scimitar

Glad he was ok as that is all that matters. By the way....did you know that Princess Anne used to drive a Scimitar?

Yes, but Princess Diana had much better taste in cars.

Diana had great taste, although not convinced about the Metro!

Its meant to be warming up but my '94 SL320 was covered in ice this morning... hadnt noticed the green tinted glass before.

Off to get the wheels refurbished next week, unsure whether to go diamond cut (less hard wearing apparently) or get them painted & laquered... any thoughts?

The previous owner of SL3 had his diamond cut 17" Sador alloys refurbished last June for a total bill (refurb + tyres + fitting and balance) of over £850.

The corrosion has already returned. I think he must have left the car parked at the yacht club during a week or four of gales and spray, given the other tarnishing to trim parts.

I would choose the harder wearing option of paint and lacquer, then apply a great sealant or wax.

Seconded. Diamond cut wheels just don't work in our climate IMHO. Paint them (744 silver) and seal them many times over. Then you just have to avoid kerbs and potholes!

Is that car still around I wonder, could be worth quite a bit? Trouble is that registration number is not known at DVLC.

I don't think it's going to pop up on eBay any time soon.

ETA - you have to admire the bling white G-wagen behind it. Big Popin'

Would you say that Diana's car is almandine red or ruby?

I think that it's Pajett red, early 90s colour. Or maybe barolo...

I assumed it was Almandine as I'm no expert on what other red it would be but seems darker than AR so probably one of the ones Harry mentioned.

Was just thinking it looks like Harry (or possibly William) in the back seat. Wouldn't it be lovely if he drove Meghan after their wedding in it just like William did with Kate in his father's Aston Martin. Both convertibles and both parent's represented etc. Hardly happen but maybe we could start a campaign.......;-)

Would send values of R129s up overnight if that were to happen!

1st post in the Mercedes sub-forum. (be gentle!)

As Layercake will attest (beat him to it - sorry LC, but you will have 1st refusal as per email), I recently got a 4.5k 500SL. Mechanically it’s good, Cosmetically less so.

There’s a thread in RR, and some generic stuff in the smoker barge thread too.

I’ll probably not post here too regularly, but will keep the RR thread updated, as I move toward a ‘sorted’ car. The to-do list goes up by the day right now, not unexpected, but not appealing either!

Any knowledge on the current market prices...

Am I thinking a early/mid 90’s 300/500 for £5k isn’t going to happen these days unless it’s a little rough?

I'm 99% sure that Diana's car is Almandine and that Pajett and Barolo weren't available on the R129 at that point.

Mine's an identical spec - Almandine over Mushroom leather.

Could well be, but to me it looks darker in the daylight pic above with Diana. The indoor pics are hard to gauge from.
