Not sure if this is a question for the masses or the specialist tuners (DMS and the like) but....

I have had the use of a GLE63 for the last week and whilst I have decided to order a competitor vehicle the brutish popping and crackling on downshift in S+ mode was awesome.

Now I need to find someone who has accessed the GLE map to see how compatible it is with the SL63 engine etc. I have a SL63 which has already had the DMS treatment but does not behave anything like the GLE on downshift so it needs remapping again to bring the GLE grin back!!

Have a word with either Eurocharged in Watford or MSL Performance in Birmingham.

Both have lots of experience with these engines/

A lot of has to to with the freedom of the exhaust. Example E63 sounds muted vs C63, likewise for some reason Merc decided to give the GLE one hell of a noise, amplified further by a remap.

My C63 is Eurocharged. It was loud before but even more so now, with more aggressive downshifting in M and S+, in turn creating loud crackles and snaps which are louder and more frequent the hotter I gets. I do love the sound (more so the performance enhancement, as it's just that little more eager) but it can be obnoxious sometimes, like when in M or S+ mode and coming to a stop after you've let it hang in gear a little over 3k RPM, it/you can knock down to 2nd or 1st with one hell of a racket. Happened the other day when I came to traffic lights on a NSL dual carriageway, down into 2nd in S+, BIG blip and bang which alerted Mr BMW already at the lights and tripped his "full race mode" switch, and led him to start driving like a bell-end and race-baiting. That can be fun sometimes in this car but the roads are 90% chumps in fast cars who know not how to drive and those who do who have nice passion for cars wouldn't be impressed with my blipping biggrin. This is easily avoided mind you by driving in Comfort mode, by not being hard on brakes in S+, using M mode or just not hanging the gears out like a lazy oaf.

The above is why I like AMG's though, they are very Jekyll and Hyde; drive it how you feel in the mood for. Eurocharged just gave more more of Dr Jekyll, so I suppose if you ignore my drivel above, Eurocharged seems to be what you want and maybe an exhaust mod,
