BTW This is a great page, owners are writing a message to Gary Savage, CEO Mercedes-Benz UK. Some quite moving stories from real owners and how this is affecting them.

Just cancelled my order for a spec'd up GLC43 because of the crabbing issues. No way am I spending north of 50K on a car which obviously has something fundamentally wrong with it. Whilst it may be a characteristic of the car that can be cured by swapping to winter tyres, it’s not a characteristic that I want for 50K+ and I certainly don’t want to be swapping tyres each time the temperature changes for my first time in 30 years of motoring.
I've just put a deposit down on a demonstrator GLE43 with night pack and 21'' alloys for less than 50K and can't wait to pick it up. It doesn't crab btw.

It still does it with winter tyres so people have thrown good money after bad.I've just put a deposit down on a demonstrator GLE43 with night pack and 21'' alloys for less than 50K and can't wait to pick it up. It doesn't crab btw.

Dear Colleague
Further to our interim update last week, we are now able to provide a more detailed technical explanation regarding this issue.
Due to the positioning of the front axle differential on right hand drive cars, the steering position differs very slightly compared to left hand drive models. When the steering is on full lock this steering angle difference can result in the front tyre skipping sensation. This is more pronounced during cold weather and when larger wheels and low profile tyres are fitted.
We can assure you that our technical specialists, as well as independent experts such as DEKRA, concur that the cars remain completely safe to drive.
Fitment of All Season tyres counteracts the sensation. We are therefore securing sufficient stocks of these to provide to customers who find this uncomfortable.
· Mercedes-Benz Cars UK will contact GLC customers who have already registered a Compass complaint:
• Customers with 17”, 18”, 19” and 20” tyres will be offered a set of All Season tyres (once available) and fitment free of charge
• For GLC 43 AMG customers who have cars with 21” tyres, a 21” All Season tyre is not currently available. We will offer these customers the option of taking 20” wheels and All Season tyres, or waiting for 21” All Season tyre availability
· We would ask you to please do the same for GLC customer complaints that you have received and managed locally or for any future GLC complaints about this issue until further notice
· Please also take the following action for customers who have ordered their car but have yet to take delivery, and for future customers of existing dealer and pipeline stock until further notice:
• Please make sure they are aware of this characteristic.
• Customers proceeding with delivery have the option to take All Season tyres as soon as they are available or to wait and change to them if/when they experience this sensation in Winter 2017/18.
• For customers who do not wish to take delivery of their GLC with summer tyres, please offer a courtesy car until the All Season tyres are available for their car.
For all the cases above concerning provision and fitment of All Season tyres, please submit a goodwill claim against damage code 2113800.
We will provide updates concerning any interaction we have with your customers, together with availability of the aftermarket All Season tyres and the logistics process involved.
Yours faithfully

Yes this is hardly going to re-assure owners or prospective owners.
Such a shame, this car was top of my list but aside from not wanting to experience this, it will inevitably kill used car values too until a proper fix is released.
Guess I'll have to wait for the new petrol SQ5 to see what that's like unless MB realise they can't seriously contemplate releasing a GLC63 like this (or can they ??!!)

At last... now we know why.
They clearly didn't test RHD cars sufficiently - at least with summer rubber on larger wheels in lower temps.
Not good from a firm (and a nation) which values and sells on the basis of engineering expertise.
Also, they sold the 21 option pretty hard with all the launch cars wearing them.
Well done to JP and others on here - without your efforts I suspect we would be none the wiser.

I finally received my new all weather tyres from Mercedes for my GLC after pursuing them with regard to the crabbing issues and excessive tyre wear.
So far so good although I won't be able to really tell until I experience cold weather and wet weather conditions.
Already though the steering feels lighter as if there is less resistance.
The service manager at Mercedes Benz and his team who deal with the AMG track cars there thinks the major issue is down to the fact that all new GLC'S were fitted with run flats and the rigid tyre walls on low profiles created a much worse crabbing effect.
Pleased to report that my tyres were supplied and fitted F.O.C.
For those interested the tyres fitted are Vredsrein Quartrac 5

Interesting. I took a look over on GLC forums due to the lack of updates here and others have found switching to BMW star run-flats has cured the problem. Not sure how they would compare to Mercedes spec tyresSo far so good although I won't be able to really tell until I experience cold weather and wet weather conditions.

The new tyres have alleviated much of the "crabbing " issue that I was experiencing I say " I " as I am reffering to my own personal experiences.Yesterday was the first time I had a chance to test them.It was raining and we were coming out of a multi storey car park.Previously it would have been making a banging sound as the tyres "skipped" on the wet surface but pleased to report no crabbing yesterday. The guy I dealt with at MB Brooklands accepts this may not be the perfect solution ultimately but time will tell.In the mean time I am happy to have received new tyres F.O.C. from MB that have alleviated some of the problem.
Morning,
I've just been to my local Mercedes dealer to have my replacement 21" tyres changed, I've owned my GLC43 since December 2016.
Got there only to find out they only have the 2 fronts and thats all they have been instructed to fit from Mercedes UK, the tyres themselves are not MO approved and also i would have uneven tyre wear across front to rear.....
This is not only ridiculous but also amusing and the level of attention to the matter from mercedes uk is shocking.
has anyone else had there tyres changed and what have they been changed too and was it all 4 ?
My local Mercedes dealer has said i need to go back to mercedes uk and start the whole process once again!!
I will never ever buy another Mercedes branded car after this mornings event!!!!

So mixed tyres front and rear and different tread depths. Very clever Mercedes! Unbelievable!

I was actually amused and yes it is unbelievable but this whole thing has been from the start !Unbelievable!
The Mercedes rep who was giving me the twaddle was digging himself and them a bigger hole upon each sentence..
This whole thing is not only appalling and shocking it's actually getting beyond the joke with there responses and opinions.
I will pursue the tyre change but I will never ever buy another Mercedes branded product..
You'd think they'd have there act together by now as they've had plenty time to consider there responses

Every time I think I should reconsider buying a GLC 43 I come back here to check updates - and see poor other members still having issues. Such a shame as car ticks so many boxes on paper
After reading through this thread numerous times and mindful of all the reported issues I went ahead and took delivery last week of a new GLC 43 Premium Plus, but with the standard 19" wheels and so far the car is pretty awesome.I'm not sure if it's the smaller wheels or better tyres, mine is fitted with Michelin, but I've not experienced any "crabbing" as yet.
I've only done a couple of hundred miles in it but so far so good, and my God does it shift!! I previously had a 2015 VW Touareg R Line which could shift when required but the GLC is on a totally different level.
I'm very happy with it, I just hope that continues....
