I think you will be pleased with the ride on 20" wheels. It's very smooth. If I gave a criticism of the ride it would relate to the body roll as the car passes over uneven roads. No concrete tyres, more rock and roll BUT I am comparing it to a super car and not other SUVs so it may well be the best SUV at limiting roll for all I know.

Went out tonight in the rain. It was fabulously composed in sport mode and comfy too. I really like it.

Oh and it gets lots of looks... Which is always nice.
Sorry I keep on re-reading as it is rare and great to see a real owners feedback smile

I'm wondering whether what you are experiencing is the air suspension. Mercedes has been changing the names again, on our current full size GL we have the Airmatic suspension with active body control which makes it handle corners like no car of that size/weight should be able to do (in theory). But sometimes it feels a little 'odd' when it adjusts to keep it stable and flat. If learned to ignore it and just plant the throttle down smile

I'm still a little unsure which version of the suspension is actually on the GLC43. They call it AIR BODY CONTROL which I guess is the new name for Airmatic but with an AMG tune?

What is the Burmester sound system like? Most of the ones in the showroom really sounded like they required some running in. I found it a little tight and light on bass. But to be fair I think our current Harmon Kardon system was like that as well, and once my wife and children went through their clubbing playlists it loosened up.
I believe the suspension is the air suspension (front and back) with an AMG tune as you say. The Burmester is coming good. IMO all stereos take time to bed in and warm up. A bit of extra bass and a smidge of extra treble have it sounding good to me. I listen to a broad range of music from pop to opera to rock to country. On clear vocals is it very very crisp.

The HK in the BMW took a good while to bed in but once set it was superb.

I quite agree with you on the value of the leather and the personal choice thing. I'll never see the money back come sale time but i will have had my value during ownership. I've had MBs before with article and it was very very good and totally believable as leather. Ironically it's the alcantara portion that puts me off... Having only ever had it on a sofa, where it bobbled over time, I've always steered clear of it in cars.

Funny story, well I think it's funny. When I bought my first Porsche, a Boxster, some 14 years ago they came, as standard, with part leather - part alcantara unless you upgraded. It felt like the poverty spec option. Today the most collectible Porsches in the GT* range all come with alcantara and people love it as a sign of the highly desirable GT* cars.

As the seats in the GLC are generally wider than the usual sports seats in sportier cars I reckon the alcantara will be an excellent choice. Perhaps one day I'll overcome my bobble fear :-)
It is funny how these things come around isn't it. I recall from the VW Golf R drivers the standard alcantara being referred to as poverty spec as well. Car specs are so individual in the things we like, and I like it that we have choice. We all have our reasons for choosing what we choose. Don't laugh, in a moment of green madness I bough a Prius and the leather option looked like that fake 70's stuff whilst it was real, I said no thank you. But we hated that car and traded it in for our anti Prius our current full size GL smile

I still can't get over how well kitted out the GLC43 actually is.

Oh does it require RON98+? Like Shell Nitro+ or is it a normal RON95 engine?
Shell Nitro+ Is all my cars see. I wouldn't use anything else. Unless caught short but I have the shell app on my phone and I plan my fill ups. Preference aside the car does call for 98 RON.

Cool thanks! Yes I plan my journeys currently around Shell. Luckily we have quite a few in the area.

Great to see some feedback from owners. I placed an order for one today smile We wanted to downsize from our GL and I was really inbetween the sensible GLC 250d and the GLC 43 AMG, but a test drive with the GLC 250d just confirmed my fears that it is a bit underpowered for my liking. If they did the 350 Bluetec it would have been harder. But alas, my heart won smile

I've ordered a GLC 43 AMG, Obsidian Black, with the whatever pack plus (all the toys and upgraded soundsystem etc), 21" wheels as those were the only with black on it, and intelligent light system (had it on the GL and is a must for me). I kept the seats to the standard once I saw them in a C43 AMG as I think they are great and find full leather a bit slippery.

Build should be confirmed on Monday or Wednesday but is estimated late October. Can't wait, it feels like a real bargain compared to what else is out there.
Good work! Interesting that you were quoted late October, do you mind me asking who this was through? Feel free to PM if you prefer. Thanks smile

It was by Sytner Milton Keynes - but on a Saturday after looking on their system. I take it with a pinch of salt. Also had a feeling they really want my GL in exchange. They will confirm today or Wednesday. I'll report back once I've got a build slot actually confirmed.

My dealer came back and confirmed that remote online is part of the Premium Plus package - as it is on the C class - adding remote online, traffic sign assist and DVD player among other things.
The configurator for the GLC 43 is currently playing up - you can spec both Premium and Premium Plus which is clearly wrong.
Hopefully they will get it sorted asap.
While I'm on, thanks for the continued updates on ownership which are really helpful (particularly as nothing else out there) and looking forward to some more owners in due course.

Mercedes-Benz customers should be careful about the exact specifications of vehicles when ordering. The standard and optional equipment seems to vary month to month and the sales people often seem to know less than you do! I was given an old spec list when I was buying a car and later found out that the actual spec had changed. Try to get the full spec in writing (sometimes difficult) and don't trust everything the sales person tells you.

Got it confirmed; requested production date 13/10/2016 estimated delivery at port 25/10/2016 expected delivery date 1/11/2016.

I'm well chuffed smile

PS. Considering the option freeze date was 8/9/2016 before I ordered it, I think they had one on order to my spec smile

You have done very well there, my dealer is having to wait for the Q4 slots to become available before he can confirm anything frown

Yes very lucky indeed, they must have had the slot already somehow. Although I've been a good customer of theirs and are downsizing a little now.

Any ideas why there still aren't any reviews of the glc 43 from any car mags anywhere in the world? Seems crazy people been taking deliveries for a few months and no journalist has written anything up yet?

And for that we are thankful! Can't wait for an objective review against the Macan GTS. Im planning on personal PCP finance with £10k deposit. Porsche is about £12k pricier but has better residuals so finance wise the difference between the two is negligible.

I'm not a brand snob so don't care about having a Porsche. Also winds me up they will give zero discount. I know it helps residuals but it still annoys me. TBH i think GLC is better looking car with a bit more rear legroom albeit i have a 2 year old so who cares. I haven't driven both yet but the AMG on you tube videos sounds nicer than the more muted GTS (especially on upshifts). Need to test drive both but no 43 amg available near me. The one dealer had was bought before it even hit the showroom.

If you ever get a minute and fancy pursuing journalism then a video of what the AMG sounds like would be great. So frustrating the only video on line is the Merc one so would be nice to hear from a real person what the 43 sounds like.

Hmmm I know my limits. I'll pass on the video, sorry. I'll gladly try to record some sounds though. I'd also gladly offer a PAX ride for anyone nearby.

We looked at the Macan as well, I quite liked it and the interior was plenty spacious enough (if you didn't notice before, our current family is a GL can't get more spacious than that really smile). What let it down for me especially was the boot space, the shape of it makes it look much smaller, and although my children don't take that much stuff our Labrador Retriever does when we go away. That combined with the fantastic value of the GLC43 was the decider for us really.

Roll on 1/11 smile

Right! The GLC boot is fab. I carry all of my 'stuff' (cloths, shopping bags, sun cream, oil, cleaning stuff, tyre weld and compressor, plus much more) under the boot floor. And when I go shopping most of that goes under the boot floor too. So the main boot remains clear and nothing slides around. The boot is a big boon.

Daily (almost) update.

I have generally been driving everywhere in Sport+ because it sounds so damn good! But there are times when a slightly softer setup would give passengers a limo-like ride. But, in comfort you lose the sound, and you gain an all round softer feel with lighter steering.

So a couple of days ago I setup an Individual configuration. Sport+ for engine and gearbox (yay!) Comfort for suspension. Sport for steering. The result? A superb compromise.

The sportier steering adds a little weight to the wheel which stops the comfort suspension feeling soft to pilot but it still feels soft as a passenger. And I still have the noise.

After two days in this mode I think it may be the best of all worlds. It even feels better and flatter than sport+ for suspension.

jcx911,
Thank you for the continuing news which is I sure is appreciated by all and I think represents the only review of the car available anywhere!
I wanted a fast SUV with a comfort rather than "sport" focus (hence happy with standard wheels and 55 profile tyres) so interested to hear about how the individual set-up works and expect to use it when it arrives.
One query - I see you have Premium Plus -do you have remote online with that and the ability to remote start + track the car?

I do have premium plus and I do have remote online... Can I start the car? Don't think so. But I can locate it and I can lock it. It messages me if left unlocked and tells me if I left the sunroof open. I can check oil level and tyre pressures. It's cool if not entirely necessary.
