Congrats.
I thought yours had been pushed back to the 20th? (same date mine is now due)
I'm chasing MB every day, I have a road trip at the end of june and its cutting it extremely fine now.
Try telling your dealer you won't take the car out of RBKC and you'll get it in no time by the look of it. I thought yours had been pushed back to the 20th? (same date mine is now due)

Looking forward to my first test drive of the GT R at Mercedes Brooklands on Friday. It will serve as the final acid test as to whether I chop my McLaren MP4-12C in for one. I love the Mac but desire something more reliable, useable (especially since I also own a Lotus 3-Eleven track car) and characterful - read engine. I'm a sucker for a proper rumbling V8!
If I do take the plunge, the spec I'm currently considering is: Silver Metallic (a bit dull but silver arrow cool), Black Wheels (Non-Lightweight), Track Pack (since I'll be taking it to Spa and the Ring etc as normal), Ceramics, and Carbon Interior & Exterior Packs.
For those of you who have driven it / taken delivery of one already what are your overriding impressions? Will it be worth the change?

I was fortunate to drive the AMG GTR at Mercedes Benz World Brooklands recently, as I was considering swapping out of my McLaren 650S for one.
It's a fun car to drive, awesome soundtrack with plenty of pops and bangs on the over-run, not as fast as the Mac, with a more compact cabin. I didn't like the standard seats much and would have gone for the buckets if I bought one. The handling on the infield circuit seemed ok, but exiting the fastest corner flat out onto the short straight the backend was struggling; weaving and tramping no matter what suspension/traction control setting I used and this ultimately put me off. Did exactly the same lap after lap and even the instructor agreed it was a downside of the car.
If your after something more reliable and usable with a characterful engine; have you considered the R8 V10 Plus? This car delivers in spades and is the direction I'm heading in, just looking for the right deal.

I doubt you would get one, even if you decided to chop the Mac in for one anyway. What's involved in getting a drive at Brooklands? I'm UK-bound at the moment and would love a taste to tide me over until September when mine arrives in Oz. Ballistic said:
I was quoted 12-18 months with the possibility of something sooner if someone cancels.
That sounds like the usual dealer trick to get you to put a deposit down so they can demonstrate up the chain, they have a good forward order bank. The wait list has been into 2019 for all of 2017 so would be surprised if you could even get one...but possible, per the above post, in 2019 if some people do cancel.virage11 said:

So, I went for a lengthy test drive in the AMG GT R with Joe from Mercedes Brooklands on Friday. What can I say...?
Plus points: jekyll and hyde split personality (depending on settings) which allows for a subtle or hooligan ride, monster engine, huge torque, chunky looks, appealing cockpit interior, and modern infotainment system. Perfect in other words for what I'm looking for: a SuperSports GT that can take continental road trips in its stride as well as soaking up a few track days along the way.
Minus points: interior not quite at the same levels of quality I've experienced in other marques, overly light steering.
All-in-all I thought it was pretty mega.
Now, will I secure a build? Honestly, it's not a car that I'd kill to own (although it is pretty stunning) so if I manage to get my hands on one, great. If not, it won't be the end of the world for me. There will always be another "it" performance car and, in the meantime, I can continue enjoying the McLaren 12C which appears to have stopped depreciating if the pre-owned market is anything to go by.
Happy days!

I had a run out in one of the UK press cars with Jason Barlow this weekend.
From the passenger seat - suspension was amazingly compliant over some of the worst roads Essex/Herfordshire have to offer. T/C didn't activate once and we were not hanging about. Interior is very 'black'. I'm sure it can be lightened up with trim options.
Rapid but not rabid. Didn't feel as quick as a GT3 RS 3.8 and the delivery was a little less 'special'. Brakes excellent, engine note not too obtrusive. I think it'll sell in spades.
Summary - AMG DNA running through it and looks amazing. Still prefer the SLS for sheer presence and that 6.3 engine.

I have just said farewell to one that I had on loan yesterday and today.
Good that it was in selenite magno which I have ordered - very pleased with how that looks in the flesh. Was running on standard steel brakes - which for me were perfectly adequate for road use - will not go with ceramics given (i) they will likely squeak if they are like McLaren and Ferrari and (ii) you would change the brakes anyway for full track use. Biggest surprise was the ride in comfort - was better than I was expecting - firm but not jarring or harsh at all. Sound as expected was angry, particularly in Race mode...loved it! Overall if I compare to my current McLaren 650 - I would say the McLaren is a scalpel, the GT R a hammer - both get the job done, the McLaren is more efficient and accurate but the GT R was more fun!

How was the steering? I had a GT and really disliked the way the steering had no feel whatsoever, the most unconnected steering I have ever experienced. I may see if I can borrow a demo for a couple of days before I try hard to get a car.Good that it was in selenite magno which I have ordered - very pleased with how that looks in the flesh. I agree on the GT S. Have had a GT S for 48 hours last year and also drove one on the Barcelona GP circuit and yes was the weakest link I felt in the car, being overlight and difficult to judge.
The GT R is definitely a step change - I think (although I am no expert) a combination of wider track, retuned steering, and rear-wheel steering. Overall felt more solid, more connected, less twitchy...certainly enough confidence to feel like you know what the car is doing. Still hardly a McLaren sense of connection but that wouldn't be expected.

I see there is a GTR for sale on eBay (Derby Trade Cars) available from the 1st September at £240,000.
Don't know the Spec but that's quite a premium !
I noticed that. I'd expect Mercedes UK to contact all buyers who have ordered a green GTR & theyll most certainly contact that dealer posing as a punter to try to work out who it is & then cancel that customers order lol.Don't know the Spec but that's quite a premium !
Mercedes have done well so far. I only know of 1 GTR that exchanged hands on the quiet so far. They're doing a good job policing the order bank & I can't blame them after watching Porsche dealers sell so many 991 Gen 1 GT3s unwittingly to speculators. They've learnt their lesson.
Can't wait to get mine. It's been delayed as apparently I'm told there is an issue with side airbags so put back to the end of the month..... will now have to wait until the 1st September.......

That issue affects all GTs, apparently the wrong side will go off in the event of an impact!Stuart1961 said:

Yes hopefully that dealer will have the car removed and it will alll shunt as forward by a week! Don't know the Spec but that's quite a premium !
I agree that MB UK are trying very hard to stop the speculators pre-sell which is good news.
As an aside, I think a £80k premium is pretty reasonable. The 991.1 GT3 RS premiums were more like £130k for the 1st 6 months or so...similar car in many respects, similar numbers, similar story of not a limited edition but limited production. Now a Merc is arguable not quite as sought after as a Porsche in general terms, but the SLS proved that high end models from AMG do have that prestige / desirability "aura".
Perhaps the buyer hasn't read the so called "small print" in their contract but it is quite clear about speculators:
"The Seller reserves the right to cancel this Order if it believes that: (i) the Customer intends to resell the Goods for Commercial gain within a period of six months......"
