I know MB have done some stupid things in the past but I really don’t think they would do something so ridiculous as to put that 6.2 non aspirated lump in any of the superb new GT’s. That motor was the death of the AMG SL! Heavy and unreliable after 50,000 miles which is why good SL55’s are changing hands for higher prices than much later SL63’s and you suggest a manual box! I wonder how many people would opt for a Mercedes manual box with a 6.2 litre V8, I would say none. You are obviously unaware of Mercedes reputation with manuals. I hope you are correct about the GTR holding more value as that’s what I have and I actually have zero chance of getting an ED50 now anyway especially a convertible which is what I would want. And as you mention the Black series I have one of the first provided they get it into production having put my deposit down together with my GTR deposit in March 2015!

"AMG don't do ridiculous things" Ummm hello... SL65 black series anyone? Ridiculous is great, all these sanitised cars become boring very quickly.

Anyway, the manual suggestion was more of a reference for you highlighting what distinguishes the 911r and the GT3RS as you clearly don't get it but let's not get bogged down with that shall we.

The 6.2 v8 M159 beauty is very reliable, just have quick look on the European classifieds and you'll see several SLS examples with 100k-200k km. No mention of any engine rebuilds either..

Your intuition is off again as the M159 from the SLS is actually LIGHTER than the GTS engine. Bigger capacity does not necessarily mean more weight. Stupid I know right, who would have thought :P

Yes GTR will retain more value that the ED50 but with the latest production increases they certainly won't be buoyant for much longer.

Finally black series allocations are not based on when you placed your deposit, it's about your relationship with MB and ownership history. If anyone is telling you different they're feeding you porkies.

For the record, if MB developed a 6.2l na coupe with a manual box I'd definitely buy one and be grinning ear to ear! If only I had sourced a 6.0l 599 with a manual box before prices went ballistic.....can't have them all I suppose

Very touchy and rather nerdy, SL65 black as ugly as sin, the SLS is far slower in every aspect than the GTR or the GTC and far inferior handling, I know this because I had one. Gimmicky doors stunning to look at but a pain in the real world. I am completely aware of how MB allocate their cars through the boutique. This all started with me saying that I felt the ED50 would hold its value well. Let’s re visit this subject in about June/July 18 and see whos correct. By then there will be about 170 to 190 GTR’s on the UK roads and increasing if the latest info about MB GTR production being increased to 200 in 18 is correct and the entire allocation of 50 Edition 50’s.
However much I love my GTR I wish I had gone for the ED50, I hope I’m wrong!

I'm nerdy now? A second ago you said I didn't know anything!

Whether you subjectively think the SL65 is ugly or not doesn't detract the fact that it is lovingly ridiculous.

The GT was never supposed to follow the SLS' ethos, it's aimed at a different segment thus any comparison about speed around a race track is irrelevant. Besides as far as I know the SLS has a higher top speed albeit only by 1 or 2 mph so not faster everywhere...

How didn't the doors suit your real world needs? I didn't have any problems during my two years of SLS ownership.

If you're completely aware about their allocation process then why did you mention you placed your deposit in 2015? Just trying to gloat perhaps?

Ohhh I feel a bet coming on smile

1 of 50 won’t be more run of the mill and the 20 BHP is purely mapping as is the extra 30bhp of the E63s!!

Oh and the ED50 Roadster is not cheaper, it’s £2000 more expensive.

While the ED50 wears the official model designation, you can spec exactly the same car once they've sold the original allocation, no? You'd have to really care about that badge for the premium. Especially over a GTR.

Wrong, the interior trim and colours are not an option on any other GT, nor are the wheels for that matter. Yes you could spec the rest if you were really desperate but it would cost you thousands as the ED50 has every extra available. You would not only have to be badge conscious but particularly daft to even think of taking this route but is suppose you could boast that you have the most expensive fake ED50 out there, yeah good idea!!

Bit quiet on the forum, watched the ‘Grand Tour’ today and not happy with JC’s comments on the GTR saying that it’s got far too many driver aids, the yellow TC button looked like a bit of Lego stuck on the dash board and was nothing more than a gimmick and then said he couldn’t understand anyone buying one! Also saw that Autotrader have announced their ‘Drivers car’ of the year, the Porsche 911 and list the GTR way down the list! Three weeks later the same eight GTR’s still on autotrader at as I said inflated prices by greedy speculators!
Regardless of this I am still loving the car and even on the Cup 2’s in the wet cold Northern UK weather this car is amazing once you get a bit of heat into the tyres! Hope you are all enjoying your cars and wish you all a very happy Christmas.

Glad you're enjoying yours. I'm certainly enjoying mine too smile

Yes there seem to be a few anti AMG GTR journalists out there but the stats/ facts speak for themselves? It's an awesome car!

The other supercar owners I often meet up with all love it. The first UK delivery of this model was back in June so 6 months on the prices are still a fair way above list. Agreed some are at stupid money.

I'm going on my complimentary AMG 3 hour session on Friday as haven't had time to do it before now.

Did my three hour session a few weeks ago, a C63S for two hours and then an hour in their GTR which was a fairly standard car without ceramics. Well I’ve done a couple of track days already in mine but this AMG session was superb, it really was a great experience and the car as you would expect was phenomenal! Good to have a Merc expert sat next to you explaining some of the electronic gizmos etc, well done Mercedes and enjoy your day.
