Had no experience driving or even being near one, but I think it's one of the best looking cars available at the moment and if I had the monies there would most certainly be one on my drive! Very jealous of you owners!

Clarkson was a bit unfair although I think his main gripe was that it didn't have the e63s power which invariably means a black series is round the corner.

But if you stick it on the dyno it makes E63S power levels apparently.

Yes they apparently got a GTR on the dyno just after its launch and it was producing over 600BHP. I don't know but often wonder how much these hand assembled engines actually vary in power depending on the particular engine builder. Surely they could vary by 20BHP or so when you are up in the 550 - 600 area! Also would an engine that had been run in properly produce a bit more? Not sure, I don't know.
The Grand Tour test with Clarkson, really strange his comments, he couldn't find fault with the car in any way and in fact praised the technology, but said that he couldn't understand anyone buying one! then they took it around their track and it did very well considering that its a small track and really not the best suited to the Merc. I still think that all things taken into account it must be up there with one of the best Mercedes ever built.

He only said he wouldn't buy one because he thinks there must be a Black Series coming. And given that Clarkson is, well, Clarkson, and has a long standing affinity with Black Series Mercs, I'd guess that he knows there's one coming and that Merc gave him the OK to say that to drum up interest.

Those buying a GTR have already ordered one and i'm guessing the GT BS is going to be well over 600hp and in the £250k region so really not a rival to the GTR

My source of info, usually pretty reliable £195950 and 640BHP and around 1500kg, should be interesting just when the GT2 has taken the Ring lap record from the GTR! It’s also coming quicker than we thought partly due I suppose to the success of Mercedes in F1, maybe!

I would place no faith in that at all.

Maybe not but he was bang on with the GTR a year before it was rumoured that it was being launched at Goodwood and knew the BHP, Green Hell as launch colour but was 10k out on price but I suppose that could have been down to currency etc. The dealer I got mine from couldn't believe it.
He also works in Germany!!!

We all knew about GTR a long long time before Goodwood! There's absolutely no way BS will be priced at this point especially given the volatility of the rates.

Really you all knew about it, that's why when I approached three dealers to place a deposit including one of the biggest in the Country only one had any idea about the GTR, hence the reason I got I think the third customer car to land in the UK which created a back lash of long term Mercedes AMG owner/collectors belly aching and winging to Bev at the boutique. Sure you did! Furthermore I did say that obviously the price can vary. What he said was 640BHP and 1500KG so lets wait and see. The fact that there are 10 GTR's for sale at the moment on Autotrader seems like this may be more than a rumour!

Shmee keeps mentioning his car needing a diff oil service. I thought we’d established that the GT R doesn’t need this. I’m confused...

My C63 had two stickers on inside the window - one with the running in details and another mentioning the diff oil change. Different car of course, but didn't your GTR's have the same? The dealer should leave them affixed.

Yes, my car had these stickers but when I couldn’t find any reference to a diff service in the owners manual, I asked the dealer who said the diff sticker was affixed in error and no diff service is required.

My god just drive it, track day it and generally use it as it’s designed to be used. If anything needs doing it will come up on the computer. Mine had no stickers and I’m up to 8k now with nothing more than the usual trim rattles and squeaks you get with modern Merc’s. If it blows it’s under warranty for three years!

In what? In the blackseries? It's already coming, 100% certainty.
If it's the specs, it's not something that crazy.

I just wish they use water cooling (they won't, but they should) and make the possible spec, shorter/smaller than the GTR, especially regarding heavy specs and work on shaving weight around.

The receipt for my deposit is dated 2015 thanks. Don’t get so angsty, time will tell I’m sure.

I can’t see anyone selling now one the bassis of an impending Blackserieslaugh

Certainly not getting angsty just maybe excited about the BS just around the corner, as Luigi has agreed it is on its way 100% and my guy is adamant that 1500kg and 640BHP are two certainties although the other day he did say it could be 625BHP due the them working on the optimum P to W. Just hope they don’t do as they’ve done in the past and make it and wider!!

Well I said let’s see how the GTR prices are doing in March/April 2018 and blimey I was so right but it’s only Jan! There are now thirteen on the trader and not selling and prices as I said are tumbling to more or less list. Just sold mine with just under 9k on the clock for what I paid for it, right result! Free motoring for 9000 miles in four months loads of track days all for nothing!!
May buy another one with no miles to fill the gap until the BS arrives which by the way my contact now reckons is still 1500kgs, under 200k but they are now saying 612 BHP! Not sure about the Perspex rear screen that he reckons it will have but I’m hoping that’s a wind up!

I am in the fortunate position of just having had confirmation of a build slot for a GTR in Q4 2018 if I wish to proceed with the purchase and need to choose the spec.

It is very easy to get carried away with options and I don't really want to spend c£30,000 on options, so any comments on those that already have a GTR and what options you went for would be most appreciated.

Currently I have the following options on my wish list but think I might need to reduce these with perhaps dropping the interior and exterior carbon fibre options which would reduce the price by £6,000+:

Premium equipment line package
Dinamica with yellow stitching
AMG Performance forged wheels (RXC)
Ceramic brakes
AMG Performance seats
Luggage compartment cover
Yellow seat belts
AMG Carbon fibre package
Interior carbon fibre trim package
Green hell magno paint
Indoor car cover

What is the standard interior and exterior like without the carbon fibre options ?

Comments awaited and many thanks in advance of any replies.

Not an owner but have spent a fair bit of time driving the GT R.

Exterior carbon is all very nice, but it’s gloss black if not carbon and looks just as nice. Interior wise I think the matte carbon looks really good.

The only other thing I’d change is the colour. I know the green was the launch colour etc, but there are so many on the market now, I’d go for a colour that will stand out more.

I’ve yet to see a Solarbeam GT R which would be stunning (but yes it’s also very expensive). Have seen pics of a couple of red ones too and they looked amazing.

Edit: Solarbeam GT R. Wow.
