I ticked every option box but most of it isn't really necessary. The one option I recommend above all else are the race buckets. Carbon trim is nice but It doesn't make the car drive any better. Re colour, a couple of mates ordered matte silver. I got Green Hell Magno and I love it every time I see it. If too common another colour does perhaps make more sense but for me it is THE colour for this model. smile

Many thanks for the two replies.

I had a Kawasaki Green Caterham Superlight R previously and it was always my favourite colour and I just think that it has to be the Hell Magno Green !

Re the race buckets;

are they wide enough for the fuller figure ?

are they comfortable on a long drive ?

what are they like getting into and out of ?

Just thinking that whilst I will be doing a couple of trackdays a year, most of my driving will be on the road, e.g. two week holiday to the Alps/South of France, so I think that the buckets will be less practical.

And finally how many of you have had PPF and who did you use - Topaz in London appear to be very good ?

I'm slim but the buckets are WIDE. Certainly wider than sports seats in Porsche, Ferrari, McLaren etc. They are comfortable for a 5 hour day - that's as much as I've done. They take a little technique to get out of them easily but no problem for daily use. Best you get along to a dealer to try for yourself though. I bought the car to tour in and don't intend to track it but still thought these are the best seats. I found they are more comfortable than the standard seats. The disadvantage is that they are manual in operation.

I got full PPF on my car - the installer used a satin film to match the matte paint finish and gloss film on the shiny bits. I'm very happy with it. My GT R is in Australia but I use Paintshield in Peterborough for my UK cars and have been very happy with both the quality of their work and their after sales service.

Having recently sold mine which was in Magno Selenite With the premium package, AMG performance seats, RXB alloys (basically standard wheels painted black) and the £60 load cover I can give you some very interesting points. Firstly any Magno colour MUST be PPF’d as minor scratches cannot be polished out or reasonably repaired. I sold mine with 9000 miles at list price which I thought was a result. Understandably I called numerous dealers and agencies who were nearly all pretty awful, ie wanted to nick it off me and make 20k! However they nearly all said that they would not buy a car with buckets as nobody wants them on a road car as they are uncomfortable after an hour and have minimal adjustment, which was something I found when I drove the MB press car for an hour. MB World have AMG sports seats on their track car and steel discs. My guy on my complimentary GTR day said unless you are buying a GTR for track use where you should opt for the cage, ceramics, track pack, light alloys and buckets etc don’t bother. Green Hell contrary to what everyone thought at launch is now the Hardest to sell, look at the cars on the market. Nice basic car with Premium pack, AMG chairs, gloss colour (no ppf expense) black wheels if you like and if it takes your fancy, a bit or carbon trim for show if that floats your boat but don’t go mad on that stuff and you will have a lovely car and when it does come to re sale you won’t be disappointed, if you can ever bring yourself to parting with it! Good luck and enjoy your car.

As if choosing options wasn't difficult enough, when you get differing opinions on options it makes it even more so but then that is what I should expect when asking the question !

Whilst there are more Hell Magno Green cars for sale than any others at the moment, e.g. 8 of 17 for sale on Pistonheads (but also 7 grey/silver), I wonder if none of these have sold as yet as they all have Bucket Seats rather than the Performance Seats ? I would imagine most buyers will buy the car as a road car with perhaps occasional track days and would therefore want the adjustable Performance seats as has been mentioned.

I am not too worried about Green being harder to sell as I am not intending selling the car for at least five years and might keep it long term, e.g. 10 years. It is after all replacing an Audi R8 that is 11 years old, so I don't tend to change my cars frequently. I also don't see the point in buying a car in a colour that will be easier to sell, if it is a car I intend keeping and would rather have a colour of choice. The Gloss Red is probably my second choice at the moment.

I remember when I bought my Caterham 620R in 2016, the most difficult choice was the colour !

.................decisions, decisions !!!

Stuart, in your case I would buy exactly what car you want with the AMG seats though for your comfort and adjustment. All the colours look great and over five or ten years whatever the cost of the extras will not be an issue. I think certainly in the future the Green Hell will be very desirable as it’s the launch colour so maybe even the most sought after! Buy what you like and enjoy it. Good luck.

Thank you and I certainly intend enjoying it !

Out of interest did you have any problems with yours over the 9,000 miles ?

None at all Stuart, had the diff oil changed at around 1000 miles thanks to friends on this forum bringing it to my attention! and that was it. I cannot fault these cars apart from a couple of minor squeaks and rattles which if I’m really fussy about I didn’t expect from a £150k car but I’m being really predantic. In a dream garage this would be a car that I would keep forever. The Mercedes AMG GTR is to me as near perfect as can be! Who on this forum would disagree? Enjoy it!

The GT range is due a mid life facelift towards the end of this year. Has anyone any information on what changes might be made to the GT R?

No face lift due, it’s just had it with the vertical rad slats and very minor interior changes.

I read an article in Autocar and this prompted me to speak with my MB dealer.. They confirmed there was a very mild facelift at the end of the year but the largest change was more power from the engines. Albeit, they had very little detail on the GT R, just the rest of the GT range.

The only change to the range will be the BS early 2019, no HP changes. The C63S, GTC, GTR and E63S are simply re mapping anyway. The GTR has a loud titanium more open exhaust and that’s about it!

Not sure I would want a GTR without a dry sump and certainly not if I was doing trackdays !

I get mine in June and also cannot wait 😃

Out of interest what Colour and Options did you go with ?

I have gone for Magenite Black paint, the bucket seats with yellow contrast stitching, yellow belts, RXC alloys, premium pack, carbon sills and carbon exterior pack 1. I really wanted the interior carbon pack but was told these are in very limited supply and would delay my build by approximately 2 months.

I have just been advised by MBUK that my delivery has been delayed if I want the RXC wheels which I had spec'd.

I can have a May delivery with RXB wheels or July delivery with RXC wheels.

Am I likely to notice any difference between the two wheel types. Just wondering if it is worth waiting an extra two months for the RXC's ?

You'll notice the difference - every time you look at the car. If it were me, I would wait and get exactly what was ordered.

Sold my week old 991.2 GT3 manual and ordered a gtr for low down torque and city driving fun. The GT3 was not what I was looking for unless you were at at least 8 tenths ...

GT3 bucket seats and seating postitiin was bang on perfect.
( I have. It seen a gtr only gts and gtc)

I jumped in a gts and felt a little cramped and high sitting with the performance seat,

Questions
Can anyone tell me if the bucket seat sits lower In the GTR and if it has a decent amount of rake?

The GTS seemed lighter (tinny) in the build quality against a 911. Does anyone else find this ?

The exhaust note of the gtc was unreal so the gtr should be epic, I can't wait.
Should I be aware of any issues with the car other than no apple I-play ?

I take delivery of my GT R early next month and want to add a few subtle accents in vinyl to the vehicle.

I live in Surrey. Can anyone recommend some local companies that could do this?

Thnx.
