I bought this towards the end of last year and didn't really use it. Now the better weather is here I will be putting on the miles. I sold my Generation 1 Vanquish to free some funds for an E Type restoration and also bought the 55. By comparison the 55 is a hooligan compared to the AM. The car benefits from some performance upgrades as well as a comprehensive MB service file showing over £10k spent last year on such items as ABC pump, hood seals, suspension parts, new discs, new fuel tank and a host of other bits.

The delivery of power is very impressive and I can see why these are sought after.

Beautiful!

Love the polished stealth look with the roof up and the rather classy look with it down - good choice!

What do the mods bring you up to..?

I only have word of mouth from the PO saying 550bhp.

It has cats removed, X pipe, stainless steel manifolds, uprated supercharger and remap, gearbox work plus some suspension stuff.

It has cosmetic changes to front and rear bumpers and grille from a later 6.3 (I think). Those who know the marque better will advise I am sure.

I do know it feels much quicker than the Vanq'. They are a lot of bang for the buck.

Stunning car that OP!

My other half has an SL350 and I maintain that it's one of the nicest looking cars I've had the pleasure of driving. As soon as I'm in a position to own one I'd jump at the chance of the SL55.

Love that red interior as a contrast to the black paintwork!

Yes, I specifically looked for the black and red combo. There are endless silver with grey interior which in my mind don't do this special car justice.

Bloody gorgeous. For a 14 year old car, the design is still beautiful.

Cracking car O/P. I've just bought one and i'm loving it. Whereabouts did you source the grill and rear spoiler from? or were they already fitted prior to owning it?

Hi
Previous owner had them fitted and sprayed last year, really makes the car stand out against "standard" AMG 55 SL's.

The exhaust mods carried at the same time, sis tubular manifolds, x pipe and decated make a very deep rumble, rising to a thunderous noise as the sc and revs climb. if I can work out how I will put something up on the tube.

OP, I was serious earlier when I said I'd buy it when you come to sell. Please consider me when the time comes.

It's exactly how I'd have modded an SL.

What size are those wheels by the way?

Lovely car.
I am having a Low Drag E Type bodyshell built which should be ready around June or July. The Merc will go around then to continue to fund the Low Drag project. I will bear you in mind nearer the time.

You have a late model SL55 front bumper (notable for silver surrounds on foglights) and an SL63 rear bumper and diffuser.

Car looks lovely, but wheels aren't to my taste not that that matters.

Nice car OP it makes me miss my one, 550bhp is the right number mine was nigh on 700bhp but was a beast to run mainly in my attempts to keep it cool but what a car. smile

I went for the 63 upgrade looks wise which wasn't to everyone's taste but I loved it, so much so I bought it back when the chance arose & I'll probably do so again now I've got the room to keep it.

OP enjoy the car I like the way whoever owned it before you dechromed the alloys I'm not usually a fan of black wheels but they work.

Enjoy it OP

That's a mighty impressive looking beast, 700 bhp must be staggering as I know what mine drives like. In terms of performance it left my Vanquish wanting.
I can understand why you would want it back.
