I've currently got an MB salesman(woman) on the hunt for an approved used CLA45 for me.

Unfortunately my local dealer can't get their hands on one for me to test drive but I did have a drive in an A45 AMG today and was very impressed, still prefer the coupe shape and size though.

Spec I've requested is;
HK sound system
19's
AMG performance exhaust
AMG performance suspension
AMG performance steering wheel
Night Pack

Obviously this spec narrows the field of used cars I have to choose from but willing to compromise should they find something appropriate within budget.

Anyway, do we have any owners on here? Anything I should be asking, looking at, forgetting about, thinking about?

I did have a nose around a C43 AMG in the showroom which was nice but not very ' AMG' and my research tells me the engine isn't a 1 man job like a proper AMG power plant is.

Hi
I have a hatchback and I had a non facelift for two years and picked up red facelift in December
How old are looking at and budget?
I like the CLA shape and I will get one on 3 1/2 years time
Great fun to drive and grip and performance is great
Get a service plan I have no surprises
Discs and pad are expensive
Front pads replaced at 10,000 and rear discs and pads at 20,000 but i do drive it hard
Tyres 10,000 to 12,000 with fronts rears over 25,000
On the motorway get about 35 mpg in comfort mode
It is lower if you use the performance on a or b roads
I have no aero so stealth mode
Sounds great
Forget the critics it is not boring to drive I always smile everyday
Because it is my only car and no issues in the winter
I hope this helps

Hi bud, thanks for that, very helpful.

I'm willing to spend up to £35k and will try to get into as new a car as possible - post facelift, 16 plate ideally although my desired spec might dictate otherwise, really want the exhaust and wheels, I think that helps it 'feel' AMG.

It will be a daily and my missus will be driving it a fair bit too which is part of the appeal of the cla45 - not too big, not too in your face, easy to drive in Comfort mode, reliable but has impressive performance and still an occasion to drive. An early M4 or RS6 would be lovely but realistically, with the type of use the car will get i think they'd be overkill.

Interesting regarding the service plan - I hadn't thought about it but will look into it.
Regarding brakes, I was previously in an RS4 so expensive brakes are nothing new!

How is the ride on a long journey? I've read lots about the stiff suspension which obviously appeals to me but weary that it could be tiresome on long motorway runs, which we will do 2 or 3 times a year from Devon to Glasgow and into France.

Have you had the performance exhaust? Do you rate it over the sports?
What sound systems have you had, is the stock one sufficient?
Any other options that are worth holding out for?

Thanks again.

The performance exchaust is must it does sound good
The ride is fine like any sports car it will be quite hard I came from GT86 so it was the same ride but comfort mode is good for long journeys
On the motorway i use comfort but all the other time sports +
I went for the limited slip diff but adaptive dampening
I went with no sunroof but last one had one it adds a fair bit of weight
The black 19s are nice
some pictures of mine

Thanks for all that, very helpful.

Your A45 looks great - love those wheels.

The dealer has got back to me today with a facelift car but it's light on options and at the top of my budget so will pass on that one, there's been plenty sold so should be an approved used one out there that ticks the boxes.

Hi,

I’ve had my CLA45 just over two years now from new and absolutely love it. Other than a few punctures I’ve had no real problems and I’ve done just over 21k miles now without issue.

The ride is firm and that has translated into a few little trim rattles which have been resolved with the usual pieces of felt tape here and there. I find the front seats very comfortable but I do like firm well fitting seats. My wife has travelled in the back on occasion with our daughter and she doesn’t like the rear seats much. The rear seats seem firm but not so well fitting.

I have the standard exhaust. Whilst I did originally enquire about the performance exhaust the salesman persuaded me against it. In hindsight he was right. The standard exhaust is plenty loud enough for me, it pops crackles and rumbles when required but doesn’t annoy the neighbours first thing in the morning.

The pano roof was a must for me. Without it I think the black interior is too dark. I find myself driving around with it open more than I had expected and I’m glad I got it.

The standard stereo is adequate. I’m certainly not blown away by it but don’t listen to loud music when driving anyway.
I decided against the performance steering wheel since I intend to keep the vehicle for quite some time. My view was that the alcantara looked great when new but I could see it looking pretty shabby with 5 years of hand sweat in it. My standard wheel actually turned up with alloy paddle shifters on it which was a bonus.

I’ve had two services so far under the service plan. The projection by my dealer put the cost of 3 services on the Service Plan at £1296.00 which is based on 3 services over 24 months at £54.00 a month. Cost of servicing by paying on the day would be £1743.00 so it is worth taking out a plan.

There was originally a cock up with my order and the car was delivered with 18” alloys. I drove around on them for a month while the dealer sourced the spec’ed 19’s. The car just doesn’t look right on 18’s IMO and the 19’s made all the difference.

The only other thing I’d recommend is getting one with a reversing camera. They are good.

All in all I really love the car. Its fun to drive, very quick and incredibly practical. I’d certainly recommend it so good luck finding your car.

Superb insight - thank you very much.

I'm 6ft 5" and sat in the back of a CLA in the showroom and my hair was brushing the headlining, wouldn't have been comfortable for a long journey. That said, my friends aren't as tall as me so i don't see it as a huge issue.

Pano roof and reversing camera are two options i hadn't bothered about but the more i see the pano roof the more it appeals and i suppose the reversing camera would be helpful in some cases but I've made it this far without such technology so i don't think I'll prioritise it!

Thanks again, will update this thread if/when i get my car.
