Hi, does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with remapping the E63 AMG 5.5 ltr bi turbo. DMS offer a remap, +150 BHP, concern is, can drive train and other important bits of the car cope?
Any feedback much appreciated.

I've used DMS before on a few of my cars and can't recommend them enough they have always done a good job with brilliant results. If you ask Rob (the owner there) he will answer any questions you have regarding drivetrain etc. I've just bought the new E63 "S" version and will be speaking to DMS soon re power upgrade.

I had my '13 5.5 tt remapped by Performance Blue in Manchester. As I've had previous work done by them it was very competitively priced. Concerned about damaging the car (gearbox especially), even though I've been assured these things can easily handle over 700bhp, I opted for the level 1 package of basic remap plus filter. Rolling road figures show the car now has 625 bhp and 725 Ftlbs. It's an event that needs good tyres and temps > 15c to fully exploit. The torque is quite something and I feel it's quite justifiable cruising round in C now.

Edit: Nothing against DMS. I had a Porsche remapped by them some years ago and was very satisfied. Expensive though.

Dms did my cls biturbo, and a few other cars I've had
They have to open the ecu, and Rob does it very carefully.
A very thorough job, it's the torque increase that makes the noticeable differences on top of the BHP gain.
I have sold my car since due to my mileage increase so i now I use a diesel, and have some downpipes available at a very cheap price!
Standard ecu remap gives a massive performance boost, but the downpipes make a huge difference on top, straight bolt on, no cutting.
The noise is completely changed, which is not neighbour friendly when you leave home at 5am.

The standard transmission should cope with all the power a standard remap would give you, as should the diff.

Once you start going for higher figures then it may be worth looking into upgrades. My transmission started getting a bit confused when the torque was increased to around 850 - 900Lbs/ft so I went the Weistec route and fitted their "Bullet Proof System" as I still wanted to get a bit more out of the car. It already had a Quaife diff as this was the first mod I did with the car, so no problem there. Had I kept it, I would probably have upgraded the drive shafts as well, though I sold it a month or so ago. (And still miss it. frown )

I only use MSL in Birmingham for my tuning work, as they have been very good with me over the years, and their support is brilliant.

Another vote for DMS - had my SL63 remapped by Rob.

I am sure they are very good at support but a remap should be a one time event unless you keep wanting more - I have had no issues since.

Thank you all for feedback, I'm really wondering though whether its worth the power upgrade though, as I get rear wheel spin/cut out at the moment as it struggles to put the existing power on the road. I've got Bridgestones fitted at the moment.

That doesn’t sound right, I have an E63s estate (stock) and I have no problems at all.

Maybe a tyre issue? I am running Continental SCs

Yeah they'll wheelspin all day. You'll get used to feeeeding the power in for overtakes. Unless conditions are pretty warm and completely dry. This current version is a lot less lairy than the 6.2 I previously owned. That was very easy to fishtail past other cars when overtaking. Got shown it once on in-car video by trafpol who pulled me.

Put a Quaife limited slip in it before attempting any mapping.

My traction light was barely seen after I did this to the car.

I take it this is once mapped?

Nope. The 6.2 engine was ferocious as standard - in many ways better than the 5.5. Ultimately and taken as a whole the 5.5 is superior though. The 5.5 is a lot smoother than the 6.2, even mapped. I'm fine without a Quaife, but had I gone for more power I would have had one fitted. Lack of one just makes me concentrate a bit more smile

I have never had it fish tail when overtaking and I certainly don’t feed the power in. Want to pass car in front, S+, floor it and not even the slightest of wiggles.

Does the S have a LSD fitted as standard? I know the 6.2 C63 PPP didn't.

No idea. Neither E63 I've owned has been the S. As I said it was the 6.2 that fishtailed, the 5.5 just gets the TC butting in. S+ and floor it? TC is quite inconspicuous nowadays I guess.

I believe the S does have a LSD as part of the spec. The standard car really should too, as others have found, it's a handful in anything other than dry, warm conditions with decent tarmac and straight roads.
