You mean the fact that you can actually switch traction control off?
R172 owner I presume? What I meant was stuff like magic sky control, cylinder shut down and start/stop system. The more electronics in the car the more is prone to fail.
As to the ONLY point a R172 actually has over a R171...
Why would I turn traction control off? To tell the recovery lorry driver that it was my lack of skill that earns him money for pulling my car from the ditch?
I have always loved ours... its a bit of a garage queen though, still less than 40k miles! there are times when I am tempted to sell as it gets so little use as a third car.... then I drive it and the temptation goes away! Mine is a rare colour as well, we searched ages to find a none black or silver one.
Great car, and one which I've had the pleasure of borrowing for a few days a while back.
More sensible in every way than the SL AMGs, and easier on the wallet whilst offering 9/10ths of the poke.
If I had an observation which wasn't entirely positive it is that it lacks the elegance and presence of the bigger SL. But I guess that's all in the eye of the beholder.

Fantastic photos and an amazing looking car! I've been out taking pics of my red 55 but struggling with my lack of camera skills. Will post a few later. I know exactly what you mean about silver and black!buzzer said:

Horrible looking thing, I'll take it off your hands for you just so you don't have to put up with it any longer Great pics too btw!
Currently thinking of selling my e90 m3 for an R171 SLK55. I came here to post a thread but saw I might as well just post in here.
Any experiences of swapping from one to the other? I was concerned that the fairly significant drop in power would be noticeable but it would appear that the SLK is about as quick?
It seems like a no brainer if I can get nearly the same performance but free up 5 - 10k of equity.

I have had my R171 AGG 55 for 2 years now and its been an excellent experience.
Most of my previous fast cars have been TVR's and this is a better build more mature drivers car.
I love the auto box (M25 type traffic), MPG is great and the sound is very nice too.
I used EPM in St Aubans too..
Mercedes wanted a fortune to change the plugs - so I saved myself £400 and changed them myself in 1 hour.

It didn't help that I'd previously owned a wayward VXR8 that had both and was more than happy to play. I'm no driving god, far from it, but getting a whiff of opposite lock out of a junction with the blare of a V8 on a monday morning really helped brighten the day
Here's some of mine.
After doing less than 1500 miles in 2016 I was determined to get more use out of it in 2017 and drove all the way to Italy through France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Austria. I also spent a couple of days in Slovenia and called in at the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart on the way back.
At the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart. Only 77 years between them
Pictures taken in the Carnic Alps
In it's natural habitat...
Special order 55 in the museum. It was owned by one of the 2006 German World Cup squad.
Carbon strakes on grill and on front bumper in a special order pale green / silver with green / black leather and painted split rims
