Thinking about it I suppose it was obvious somebody would have started a thread. They certainly had on the MB owners forum I frequent still no harm in another.

'HANDCRAFTED' is just pretentious marketing speak to fool the gullible that the engine was HANDMADE which it most certainly is not.
I reckon you could knock up such plaques on a 3D printer if such things mattered that much.

It’s nothing to do with being handmade...

In most engine assembly plants, engines are built on a production line. At AMG, the complete engine is built up by one person, who is the one whose signature appears on the plaque. It’s not actually hand signed, it is printed / etched on.

Stefan Hilcz built mine up. His engine building skills are clearly much better then his calligraphy

Guess you mean the Mercedes script? That’s a fairly recent development and my car pre-dates it.

A few other cars also have little ‘Easter eggs’ in the windscreen - Jeep Renegade and Jaguar E-PACE are a couple I can think of.

Is that ‘Conk’ rofl

Best so far, Conk out hehe wander where the saying conk out came from..

Etymology[edit]
Possibly an onomatopoeic imitation of the sound of a stalling internal combustion engine. Possibly coined by British motorcyclists circa 1910.

Verb[edit]
conk out (third-person singular simple present conks out, present participle conking out, simple past and past participle conked out)

That’s the one. They seem to have used Benz, Mercedes and Gottlieb Daimler signatures at different times, or possibly across different model ranges.

It probably drives the likes of Autoglass mad, as their replacement non-OEM screens won’t have the signature and some fussy customers will get upset
