CLS gearbox issue
Discussion
I've been suffering similar issues on my W218 for four years now... torque convertor has been replaced; numerous adaption procedures on the lock up clutch; all electrical contacts removed and cleaned; air mass sensors removed, checked and cleaned. Car is now back from latest set of diagnostics at the dealer - next port of call is with a sensor at the back end of the exhaust system.
This seems to be an insanely over complicated but under engineered gearbox I'm afraid.
How old is your car? Is it a candidate for MB goodwill ?

It's a 2010 so well out of warranty. This seems to be an insanely over complicated but under engineered gearbox I'm afraid.

I thought perhaps a simple fluid change might help but I don't want to open a can of worms.
