You have a rather more modern dash than I do.
By the time the light comes on it’s probably already too late.
No, that is the only pic I could find with the fuel pump warning, mine is the plain W212 dash.......By the time the light comes on it’s probably already too late.
But it isn't too late, that is what is so annoying, I managed to get nearly another 60 miles from it when that came on.
I did then get 80 litres in, normally get around 75 in there.

80 litres is the big tank.
It’s not big enough.
I can make it to Hamburg, Germany from Chichester on 1 tank, 4 up with luggage - but i'm on fumes at the end of the journey. Not towing but 100mph + on the Autobahn eats the fuelIt’s not big enough.
Sub 300 miles not unusual.
That is one thing I hate about Mercs, that stupid logo that replaces the miles remaining!!!
I just bought a W212 (estate) e350 CDI Bluetec last week from a main dealer as I needed the peace of mind of the MB warranty as opposed to the wafer thin ones provided everywhere else.
From the research I've done the V6 engines are quite bulletproof if looked after, and on the motorway you'd be hard pressed to tell its a diesel.
I do between 35 and 40k miles a year for work and expect the car to take it all in its stride. It certainly feels extremely well built.
If you do lots of motorway mileage then I'd look for a car with DISTRONIC PLUS radar cruise, it reduces a taxing motorway journey to little more than a walk in the park.

Ah, that looks more familiar. But it isn't too late, that is what is so annoying, I managed to get nearly another 60 miles from it when that came on.

The 7G box did have a few issues with jerky down changes in the lower gears. There have been a few software updates to help with this.
A transmission fluid change can improve the smoothness as well. Check to see if this has been done, Mercedes recommend a fluid change at 37k on some boxes but say others are sealed for life. Ignore this and get it changed by a good indy and make sure they flush the torque converter as well. This holds about 40% ish of the oil so if this is not done you are contaminating good oil with used.
I've a 63 plate S212 220 cdi with the 7G plus box (always smooth hot or cold in any gear), just turned 4yrs old and 43k miles. I get it serviced at the main dealer and their system says it needs the auto gearbox fluid change next year at 5yrs/77500 miles (whichever first).A transmission fluid change can improve the smoothness as well. I can't understand why the main dealers wouldn't or don't do a 'proper job' as has been suggested, i.e. changing ALL of the fluid and flushing the torque convertor. Surely it leaves them open to expensive claims if the gearbox later goes pop and it's been serviced to their specific schedule?

I much prefer this to the new digital dash.
The world seems to have forgotten that the instruments are there to give you essential information as easily as possible. Not to sell cars with flashy graphics. Yes, I’m a dinosaur
I've got a 2010 500 estate (which replaced a 2005 500 estate). Both great cars.
I absolutely love my current one which, although it's an Avantgarde, it's a 500 so has a lot of the stuff that you get on the Sport eg the steering, the brakes and the Intelligent Light System (ILS).
If was after a diesel I'd go for a 350 Sport, personally. Extremely smooth engine and a good spec as standard. Sports seats are great too. Pano roof would be, for me, the icing on the cake.
EDIT; having said all that if you want to be ULEZ compliant you'll need a Euro 6 diesel which I think means getting the facelift which is 2012 IIRC. Costs a bit more, obviously.

I certainly want the Sport, it looks far nicer than the Avantgarde to these eyes. 500 would be lovely but again I suspect is rarer than rocking horse poo and also not fantastic for a 15-20k per year commute.I absolutely love my current one which, although it's an Avantgarde, it's a 500 so has a lot of the stuff that you get on the Sport eg the steering, the brakes and the Intelligent Light System (ILS).

By ULEZ compliant facelift, do you mean the blobby headlight version from 13-plate onwards??

At that point I started looking at 350 petrols and then stumbled across an extremely rare 500. According to Mr E on here of the 400 or so 212 500's the majority were coupes (which are actually C Classes....). There were less that 100 saloons and apparently 10 or so estates.
We can all guess there weren’t many;

Seem to have a number of possible names, and I can’t work out how many were saloons, coupes or estates.
Certainly when I was buying mine it was one of 2 petrols available.

Maybe it wasn't you. Someone spent a fair amount of time watching what came up for sale and what the HowManyLeft site said and concluded that the approx total number or 212 500's registered was something like 400. And he estimated the splits across the three versions.https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?utf8=?&q=E500&a...

The coupe's come up fairly often. I don't think I've seen another estate. By memory I've seen one saloon for sale in the last 10 months.

Yes. I THINK that's when they became Euro 6 but others may know better than me. The non-facelifts I looked back in January 2017 at were all Euro 5 so I bailed out (I live in Zone 2 London).

I hope you are looking after that car well for me. Still enjoying your last one but Hoping you will think of me when you sell

And yes I'm looking after this one for you.
It hasn't even cracked 60k yet :-)
EDIT just remembered that I didn't stumble across the 500 - it was you that told me about it and persuaded me to go and see it - thanks!
