So I’m still looking and feeling like pulling the trigger very soon. However, most listings on Autotrader don’t state number of previous owners, service history etc, which is annoying .
I’m want to buy at the lower end of the market, £50-£65k.

I’m also finding it difficult to find what options were available for models around 2016. Were there different suspension options and more specifically, was air suspension ever an option?

Also, I’m a bit concerned that models around 40k miles will probably need new brake pads, discs and a major service soon after purchase, which will no doubt be a big expense.

If anyone can find any good examples for sale etc, please feel free to post.
At that price level see if you can find an Edition 1, they come with most options as standard plus a rear wing, carbon fibre roof and front spoiler amongst other bits.

Well mine is low owners and mileage so that probably wouldn’t fall within your budget but I would have thought you’d have more choice than you are suggesting.

Personally I’d spend a touch more if you can.

55-60k will get you into an early GT. That has 460 bhp compared to the 506 of the GTS and is also slightly lower specced - no race mode, no variable locking diff and no adaptive sports suspension. Still a great car though.
The GTS starts around 65k for a decent low mileage 2015 model and I'd try and get one with the premium pack that gives you reversing camera, pan roof, burmester sound system and keyless start.

Air suspension - on a GT/supercar? Erm, no.

Ride is firm but comfortable - this is a good little starter on the early models to give an idea of differences - https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/mercedes/amg-gt/6538...

Romans have a good reputation and have a lovely GT in - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/201908010...

Or a main dealer early model low mileage GTS - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202007301...

Ouch, I'm not into mods etc. Prefer stock cars.

Definitely go for a ride in one then, GT and GTS are More softly sprung than the C, but you’d want the selectable suspension option on the GT or GTS (std on the C) if you like your comfort, without it I didnt even take the car out of the car park, i knew straight away it was too firm, 5 mins later i jumped in an S with the option and it was far better. Then i got the C with stiffer springs bangheadbiggrin

How harsh is the ride on the C in the softest setting, just out of interest? This is coming from someone that thinks BMWs are bad (but happy with the ride of my Alpina!).

Drove a GTR today and was concerned about the ride harshness compared to my 911 GTS. In every suspension mode the GTR was more compliant than the 911, I was totally shocked by how comfortable it was in every mode particularly in comfort. Awesome car.

Blimey, that’s high parish and not what I’d expect. Nice to hear. I’m guessing the GT-R is stiffer still than the GT-C right?

GTR & C have the same spring rates I believe, GTR has firmer damping I think (but not sure)

Not sure I’d agree with the Comfort statement but I can say it’s comparable to a TVR on Nitrons or the e46 CSL.

C In comfort mode is fine for touring if you have a wife that rates comfort quite high (she loves our S class with its ‘magic ride control)

She found a recent 3k trip across Europe absolutely fine

I have a 2019 GTS and came from a 991T and a 911 GTS. I love the ride and have had no issues, I drove to buy it in my 911T and got out a. It stiff, drove 230 miles home in utter comfort.

This car has been such a surprise to me, the way it rides, and the power. Funny as I dismissed them when they came out. Who knows why.

Is that a ‘C’ / GTR or the softer sprung ‘S’ / GT?

Not sure how it is sprung but it is a GTS. Are they sprung differently to the C?

Yes, softer than the ‘C’ which uses the GTRs springs

Had the mesh recall carried out by mercedes on friday, seems worth having done as my oil coolers were starting to take a few knocks, these additional overlaid plastic mesh grills that sit tight against radiators look fine, in fact better i think as it takes away the bright appearance of the silver radiators.

Didnt take a before but it looks very oem and now better protected, a holed radiator would mean youre not going anywhere..
