Update on my MY2000 CL500, 32,000 miles, mint condition, Chalcedony Blue with pale grey leather and dark walnut veneers. The drivers seat was grimy due to some ahole driving the car in grubby clothes (which won’t happen again) along with the steering wheel, the central glove box lid, and the driver’s leather door handle. I treated these with Autoglym leather cleaner followed by Autoglym leather balm, used liberally and worked in with a micro fibre polishing pad and a soft toothbrush, then cleaned off with warm clean water. Worked like magic, leaving leather soft, matt finish and clean.

The battery issue is sorted. I managed to open the boot manually. I put in a new manufacturers spec Varta battery, and lo and behold, everything lit up and the engine started. Check the tyres and we are off.

Car went in for a service and MOT. Within 24 hours of getting it back, clear MOT, the instrument cluster went, along with the AC condenser, both of which had functioned fine up to that point. Now not getting any cooling, and more importantly, instrument cluster not working, so can’t tell revs, speed, fuel status, anything. Now apparently these cars had a recall on the instrument cluster which mine did not get (it is and remains a one owner car having been bought by our business in 2000.)

What would you advise. PS The car is a cracker, a CL500 but specced with every option, and in mint condition once I have polished it up.

See if Mercedes will still carry out the recall on the car if eligible, otherwise you can have your current one rebuilt.

Plenty of companies offer the service.
