Maybe it never happened....
Collection was scheduled for the 23rd but the majority of dealers closed on the 24th.
My car was scheduled to be delivered to dealer on 24th so was no chance of picking it up. What with everything thats happened since and the extra £330 that will be due because of new VED rules, I reckon I will be cancelling my order.

It happened. I collected on Monday afternoon last week. I was likely the last car out of the showroom as they were shutting that evening and not opening again until this has all blown over. So far pretty happy with it, although I've only managed 250 miles of the 1000 mile run in period. I'm looking forward to being able to drive it as Affalterbach intended, but essential journeys are hard come by and not very long when they do.

Thread resurrection!

How’s the car bedding in?

Well from ordering in Nov to the last update pre lockdown I was looking at June for collection then everything went pear shaped work wise (restaurant biz) so I convinced myself I’d cancel and lose my deposit however work is looking good again now.

I sent an email to Merc customer services weeks ago asking to cancel and got a call back saying someone would call me when dealerships reopen. Then today got a call saying the car hadn’t gone into production due to the factory shutdown.
I was told I could certainly get my deposit back but I could also wait a few more weeks before deciding as it’s not due until August/Sept time and will be built regardless- it’s the first Shooting Brake Merc Brooklands have on order.

I asked about possible finance deals or incentives to reflect the Covid effect on things but nothing has been organised by MB yet- here’s hoping.

Had already convinced myself to ‘just’ spend £40/45k on a used M6 GC, C63 or Alfa Guila but may be swayed again.

Hopefully the dealer offers something to sweeten the deal as I still really want one!

Cheers,
Matt

The car is run in and I'm really enjoying it. The turn of pace it has is brutal and the sheer amount of grip is also impressive.

I'm still getting to grips with the handling. I've been spoiled with instant, crisp throttle response on my other cars. So many reviewers say this car has practically zero lag, but I don't find that to be true. When pressing on through some twisties I'm finding I need to start prodding the throttle well before the apex so that I have shove out of the corner. If I try to feed it in where I would in, say, my 911 then the car bogs for a fraction and the car sits into the corner rather pushing out. It's been a long time since I had a turbocharged performance car so I'm sure it's just a matter of getting used to it.

The fit and finish are very good. The boot is capacious, even with the slopey back end. Some of the modern safety tech is annoying. Things like the lane warning vibrating the steering wheel. You can turn it off, but that's only for the current journey and it resets every time you restart the car. I'm getting low to mid-20s mpg, but it was never going to be frugal.

It suits the purpose I bought it for perfectly and if it was my only car I wouldn't feel like I was missing out on much. I'm glad I have the toys too, but I've found myself using them far less since I got the Merc.
