Hi All,

I recently bought the above car.

Perfect in every way except the phone!

The car is fully wired etc, linguatronic.

Is there some kind of bluetooth cradle available?

I really can't be bothered with the switching sims thing.

Any help appreciated.

What year is the car - and does it have the UHI phone interface (using the clip in cradle in the armrest)? I think it's a bit of nightmare on older cars and on the newer ones there are different versions (supporting different profiles: SAP, SAP V2, headset) of the adapter.

Anything here help:

Thanks for the links

The car is a 52 plate, no idea what system it uses to be honest.

I guess best bet is to take it to a dealer and see what they recommend.

300 odd quid seems a little steep though

Hi

Have phone prep on Lady Slackers ML and you can get the bluetooth module but it is only FULLY compatable with certain phones as the vehicle takes over all functions of the phone thru SAP (Sim Access Profile)

Read this for details of supported phones

http://benzinsider.com/2007/03/mercedes-benz-bluet...

There are two bluetooth adaptors the NEW one is more widely compatable so get that. I know the link talks about blackberry but read further and you will see a list of other phones.

I guess a good way of trying it is to arrange for the merc dealer to get a bluetooth adaptor and plug it in and try your phone. If it all works then buy it if not then don't.

This is a good link that tells you about the technicalities

Hope this helps bowtie

The general consenus is that the dealers are pretty clueless, although if you get them to deal with it then it's their problem if it doesn't work.

I would suspect that your car predates the UHI interface that MB use now, in which case Bluetooth will be awkward.

In the US, MB does offer BlueTooth adaptors which fit into the exiting cradle but they're phone specific (maybe only Motorola V60)

Try posting on one or both of the MB forums and see what comes back?

Alternatively - if you are with Orange - get yourself signed up to "Single Number" you get two sims, one number (dialling out) for £3 a month!!!

You can choose which phone works when . . .

The Bluetooth cradles have a slot in to take a SIM card, much better than messing around with the bluetooth (that always picks up a mystery mobile belonging to 'Hans'). Local off high street mobile phone shops can clone your SIM.

In defence of 'clueless dealers' the information we got for these was scant to say the least. I spent a good half hour attempting to pair a bluetooth cadle with a new W164 ML, then to be told by Germany that they aren't compatible. The early ones get a bit iffy with W211 E Class Comand systems too.

Surely it's optional to insert a SIM though? The SAP 'cradles' are basically complete phones, which can either use a SIM that you insert or link using Bluetooth to a limited range of mobiles (those that support SAP). SAP systems have the best performance because you're effectively using a fully installed car-phone, with the car's aerial etc.

The later HFP profile modules are more flexible in that they will link to a wider range of phones, but they're then relying on the phones own aerial etc.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I've decided the best way is to try and get my SIM card cloned.

The car already has a cradle with a nokia phone in it.

I just don't fancy taking my SIM out each time and swapping it etc.

I can get it cloned, leave one in the car and one in my normal phone.

Hopefully, problem solved!
