The headlight switch is ridiculous on these - you cant see if they are on / off or whatever - crap design that has suprised me.
Doesn't the dash have indicator lights for side / Head lights?

[quote=K321]not too keen on that maple thing,[quote]

The maple "thing" looks far better in the flesh, not a very good photo I am afraid...wink

Actually the car came with the "standard" wheel by mistake, so MB rushed the correct one we specified over from Stuttgart, which was retro fitted the week after taking delivery.......

No indicator lights for sidies but you see the cars in front light up. I live in a leafy part and on my trip to work this morning at 8.20am they were on / off / on / off sometimes its so bad I have to turn them to manual which defeats the object somewhat.

It concerns me that some drivers might think Im flashing them eek I have cleaned the windscreen sensor part and I see it on other mercs so more crap design I guess. And whilst Im moaning (love it really) maybe cos im a shortarse but the way the door handle (inside) is pulled you naturally push out with yout wrist to open the door - its a heavy door - im a shortarse so the leverage is not good as such my wrist is killing me and I have to make a effort to push it open and not use my wrist top.

Most impressed with the bluetooth phone / wap though - superb

The black birds eye maple looks great.......if you asked nicely couldn't you get them to rush the wooden wheel back to Stutgart and leave you with the leather one? biggrin

Sorry, couldn't help it...getmecoat

Wacky, my wifes car, which they've told me today is being built October 16th, is cashmere with black birds eye.

I think it looks great.

I'm looking forward to it.

Can't get timber steering wheels myself, unless they're on a 1930's Bentley which the CLS certianly isn't but it's a very personal thing.
Thanks bertie.

I'm sure you'll love your CLS, it's brill.....driving

btw:- Here's the Moto Lita wheel on my Morgan Roadster......

Ooppss!!

Now on a Morgan I can almost see it, old fashioned car, old fashioned steering wheel, makes sense.

Having said that, my brother has had 2 Morgan Plus 8s and they scared the crap out of me. No suspension whatsoever meant they hoped round anything but the smoothest corner and brakes that needed warning in advance by telegram you wanted to stop!!

And I vividly recall one of the Morgans saying about the front suspension "well it would have to be very good to beat the sliding pillar!!"

biggrin

All that said, absolutely beautifully made things Morgans and I can see the appeal.

I've gone for the diesel as the 350 and 500 petrols get a hammering come re-sale.

Used 500s are the same price, maybe cheaper than diesels yet they started £10k more when new!

You can't get 3 in the back of the CLS, it's strictly 2 seats in the rear.

The centre console runs right through and there is no seatbelt

Theres only two seat belts in the back, so in effect it would be illegal, and probably would leave the driver uninsured? For that reason,my wife is selling hers now as she's getting involved in the school-run/share thing and wants more seats.Great shame, they really are beautiful cars and the diesel frankly, is superb.

its incredelous that they only stuck 2 seats in the back but maybe it would of made the regular e class obsolete. It seems there are not many cars out there for people like me who need 3 seats, class, style , I heard Porsche are pushing for their panamerica to be on sale for 2009, hopefully that will have 5 seats.
i test drove the Q and it looks pretty dated inside and useless satnav and its massive!

Yep, they would be encroaching on E-class sales and they wanted to create another niche.I can't help noticing that new cars are starting to look more like the CLS, and to my eyes it a stunning looking car, and if the compromise has to be 4 seats only it's a small price to pay.TBH, my wife really wants to keep it, to the point that there's not a 5 seat car out there that she would swap it for, hence a 6/7 seat MPV/4X4/estate is the only way to make the change worth while..

It's the reason we're keeping the XC90.

Wife will use the CLS most of the time but we will still have the 7 seat XC90 as a family bus!

in the Q it has only 2 seats really in the back but a recessed middle bit and they stuck a third headrest in the back too so you can use it, i thought it would of been in the same in cls, but its got a raised centre bit right , like a 456gt?
i do really think its such a nice car to look at, on par with the Q i think

Its utter madness to have given this car 4 seats. The expense and limited supply of the thing means that it would not canibalise E Class sales (and even if it did why would Merc care? they would profit even more!). I agree with the other poster...if you need 5 seats then you cant enjoy a car with any real style. I wait with anticipation the new Jag S type-hoping it is good looking enough in the flesh- thats where my money will go as I refuse to drive an SUV and Merc insist on putting 4 seats in a 5 seat car!

It is a coupe and as such it has 2 seats in the rear and this is not going to change. The roofline in the rear is actually quite low as well and therefore not as wide as the E-Class for passengers. All of the Coupes in the Mercedes range have 2 seats in the back.

If you need 3 seats there are the saloons and if you need more, the R/G Class or Viano / E-Class Estate with 7 seat option.

paracetamol, i keep seeing the jaguar Xf type , a black one on the way to work, and not only is it fast but from the front it looks like a Q ..a bit, hopefully POrsche will stick 5 seats in the panamerica, till then, i am left with either a Q with no warranty or a cls with 4 seats...
thanks bertie for the pic, i thought it was different, am imagining how i could fit a pillow in the middle , or would that be illegal?

FWIW with the Merc car seatwith transponder at least the passenger airbag will turn off, something that convinced us to buy it in the first place! Another FWIW! blatant plug, now for sale in the classifieds!

On most cars you can switch the airbag off, certainly all the Audis we've had, and the Volvo and then you can use your normal car seat.

Mercs transponder idea just makes it that you have to buy thir very expensice car seat, what a rip off.

However we have the CLS comming, so SJC, are you getting rid of your seat too?
