SL500 - clicking relay - is this normal?

Hi all,
I have something that may, or may not be a problem with my new-to-me SL500 (2002 model).
When the car is all switched off, locked (or unlocked), doors open or closed there is a clicking.
It's coming from inside the boot, just above and forward of the consumer battery. It's a click-click that occurs every 10 or so seconds. Sounds like a relay to me. Is this normal? Perhaps part of the security system?
Also when the car is stopped, doors locked (or not) there is a faint noise emanating from the area between the left and right climate control knobs. It's quite faint - like a tiny little fan is running. This appears to be constant. Is this normal?
Although neither of these two phenomenon (the clicking relay or the 'fan' sound) are causing me any problems they do concern me; I suspect I have a fault.
Aside from these two potential issues there's nothing else that seems to indicate any problem.
Any ideas?

This can't be that - it's making a noise constantly - even when I get in the car in the morning.
As to the clicking relay I have noticed something about it - I tend to get into work about 40 mins early to avoid traffic, so was having a little power nap this morning. I could hear the click-click .... ~ten seconds ... click click. BUT! I also noticed that with every second set of click-click (from the consumer battery area) there was a faint "whirr click" coming from the CD changer behind the passenger seat. I ejected the magazine and watched. The click-whirr came from inside the CD changer and the little green "eject" button would flash twice.
Obviously the two are linked. I'll now have to investigate in the boot. Knowing my luck it will need some black box replacing that will cost a thousand pounds.

Update for anyone who has been reading this....
This lunchtime I was still feeling a bit tired so went out from the office and had a snooze in the car. I woke up about 40 minutes later and the clicking was gone. I can only assume that this is one of the "features" on the car that controls the stereo for so long after the ignition is switched off or whatever.
It started again as soon as I turned the ignition key to acc and off again.

Sounds as if you're getting to the bottom of it though. Haven't noticed anything happening with the changer or in the boot area apart from the odd charging of the hydraulic pump. Hopefully you've just got a dodgy or loose relay, there's a ton of them in there to check.

Cured the problem.
I can only assume there was a dodgy connection - last night I removed some of the trim so that I could have a look, and I pushed whatever plugs I could reach in as firmly as I could (around the consumer electrics control box - silver thing). I was going to do a proper job today. Anyway it's stopped, so I'll leave it alone unless it starts again.
