I would go for MercMan over dronsfields, on experience they are less likely to shaft you as much.
The car should run fine without an ECU believe it or not (response and cold running will both suffer) so you never know you might be able to wait til one comes along...
Google the part no. because a place sells reman ones and can be found by doing this.
Presume OVP is fine? (it powers the ECU)

Thanks Pentoman. My problem is the car will not start. Mechanic has changed the crank sensor so presumes the ECU is kn**red. Excuse my ignorance but what is the OVP? and just maybe he has diagnosed the fault incorrectly, many thanks, GraemeThe car should run fine without an ECU believe it or not (response and cold running will both suffer) so you never know you might be able to wait til one comes along...

I had a problem with my 190 where, after a gearbox change, the engine wouldn't start presumably because of the crank signal. I checked the signal at starting with an oscilloscope and it was present and correctish. After removal and reinsertion of the sensor it was ok... so that was weird.
The price quoted was the same for the ignition computer for this 190 as well (2.5-16). I had one of these computers fail on my 2.0 190 but it was much cheaper. It failed slowly over a few weeks, sometimes not starting at first then starting okay with a bit of a misfire.
For that cost you could put the money towards a conversion to EFi and get some nice extra economy and power to go with it all!
Or try one of this google search http://www.google.co.uk/search?complete=1&hl=e...
I bet my finger that if you get a ECU from a same year 500 it will work; it's a bit of a bodge however and some of the timing would probably be off :/
good luck
