Being totally amazed by my SL55 at vmax last week, I was wondering what the opinions of the 65 were?
I never really paid attention when it was released.

Is this a 'real' example of what they can be bought for now?

Dunno, but that SL65 looks very nice - was there an official AMG version, or would people just have ordered the necessary bits as extras?

So what speed did you manage at VMax, and what sort of chipping has your engine had?

The car in the classified ad the OP linked to is an official AMG car - they are looking very tempting at these prices, they were close to 150k new IIRC.

but sounds no where near as nice as the '55 and, from what I have read, does not handle as sharply.

I can honestly say that a CL65 AMG was the closest thing to 'boring speed' I will vaguely admit to.

Your comments re handling may be correct: this car was utterly bemused by roundabouts.

Yes, noise on the 55s is first rate.

Correct regarding the handing & noise, but my god they are quick in a straight line. Might have to borrow one for the next Vmax, what do you say DeR? thumbup

Drove a SL65 last year at a Mercedes event at Knockhill here in Scotland,I have C63 and it felt limp getting into it after 4 laps in the 65,It did not like the corners much!Just felt like a constant surge of power right through the rev range. These cars are so cheap now.I saw a CL65 fOR SALE ON A 2007 FOR 85k with only 10K on the clock(not at a main dealer) THAT IS SOME HIT FOR THE PREVIOUSE OWNER.

Well, let me see... hehe

Tbh, one thing that nearly sucked me in on the CL65 was the sheer look of the thing - huge and equally impressive - http://www.luigimotors.com/CL65.htm - asking just under £40k.

Better pictures, here - http://www.dealers.motortrak.com/detail?template=/... although by comparison, a tad optimisitic £ wise?

Real shame about the tinted glass on both cars.

If Luigi bothered to prepare his stock he might get more money for it. That CL65 is a dog's dinner.

Afaic, the real piece de resistance of any 65 AMG is the ability to pile on crushing speed whilst challengers simply shake to pieces...

I always recall Phatgixer's SL car at Vmax events leaving my Beetlespurter floundering on the edge of oblivion whilst our man, on one hilarious occasion which sticks in the memory, resplendent in a Jerry's piss pot helmet with the roof down, laughing as he dug deep and fired orf into the Sedatenlands just beyond the timing beams.

Mark's insane SL600 Biturbo (Kleeman fettled, iirc) now continues that tradition. thumbup

What is it with you Del?

First you rumble my 456/550 price watching and start mentioning it in every post so that everyone else knew they were becomming bargains. Now you are doing it with on 65s!!!! Everybody was ignoring them and happily just talking about 55s and their noise. The 65s were sliding into depreciation obscurity with only me tracking their slide. Now suddenly you come alone and start talking about them!! Will you please for love of God shut up man and stop giving the game away!

Dear all

65s of both Cl and Sl variety are extremely crap cars. They are boring, dull, they emit little excitable noise, they give you no fun sensations, they were built during Mercs "bad" years and they cost a fortune to run. You all really are better off running your 55s and ignoring the 65.

Thankyou,
Somebody who is absolutely *not* looking to pick up a bargain 65 so he can piss on all the little ppl in just 55s.

p.s. Bloody M6 owners should be shot!

Wilco, Deejay.

Tbh, I wouldn't worry excessively.

99% of fanciers will be put orf by the sheer concept of a 6.5l V12 biturbo and the thought of 'what if...' expenses.

As with many relatively low volume perfrmance cars, I think quality examples are itro their nadir, price-wise.

Yes, the odd munter will appear o'er the forthcoming years for 27p but mileage and precisely no history will indicate it's provenance.

Ergo, the SL65 AMG at current rates is probably where it will stay, to wit, (relatively) reassuringly expensive.

I've been told it had a remap & the ABC done, but nothing other than that.
The mercedes tech drove a standard one back to back & told me there was a substantial difference.
Have a go next time mate, i'd like to know your opinion.

hmmm It's had the active body control done ? , not sure what effects that would have on the speed.
