I will shortly be the owner of an SLK32.

Bearing in mind the rust problems with these cars I am considering having it professionally treated with Waxoyl, or a similar compound.

Would this enable Mercedes Benz to avoid future paintwork rectification on the basis that a third party had undertaken work on the car?

Has anyone used a firm or company that undertakes rustproofing and would they recommend them?

Hi there

Im just a few weeks if front of you regards the purchase process - Where dod you buy your car in the end, miles, etc? I read earlier that you knocked back the low miler in Wolves. I'm about to have some goodwill work along with a couple of minor issues that I will pay for. I have considered waxoyling also post the goodwill work - I guess the thing to consider is that after the 8 year point there will be no comeback anyway so unless its had some recent goodwill work which must come with some warrenty, there nothing to loose. If you do go for waxoyling, dont dismiss doing it yourself, quite messy but, you will have the satisfaction of knowing how well its been done and save yourself a few quid also! Cheers

I'm seriously considering having this done on my SLK32 even though it has full MB warranty and it probably will invalidate the existing warranty. (Well I know they will probably argue this point if I go back to them in future)

I did have warranty body work carried out on it last year. The work was far from satisfactory i.e. the car was delivered back to me on a Friday afternoon with the paintwork sticky and, in places, had some kind of powdered compound on it which I could not get off, although, after complaining they did rectify the problem. However, I understand they only guarantee warranty work for just 1 year which just sums up the quality of the job!

Therefore, on balance, if it does invalidate your warranty I don't think you'll be losing too much. If it is 7 years old like mine is now, when and if it needs body work carrying out on it in future you would be the one in control of where it goes for any repairs.

All that said, you have made a great choice of roadster, welcome to the joys of owning an SLK32. I hope you have much enjoyment like I have over the last two years!
