SLK 32 AMG - Alternator failure

Hi all,

Just had what is probably the alternator fail on my 60k 51 plate SLK 32 AMG, battery light came on at the beginning of a long journey and then gradually the elecric systems shut down one by one untill i was left with no where to go. RAC man daignosed Alternator packed up.

Question is, are they repairable or shall i book it in at Merc dealer for new one. Just waiting on dealers prices for this so any advice well recieved as i am not mechanically minded and dont want to shell out a fortune if not needed.

Hi In my experience they are not repairable, however I would be tempted to take it to any good Auto Electrician or Independant. Your Alternator will be a standard Bosch which can be sources from a number of suppliers.
You will find doing this will be cheaper than taking your car to a Mercedes Dealer.
