MAF sensor

Have a W202 C240 estate with auto box. When I accelerate and keep the pedal in the same constant position, the car accelerates smoothly (albeit a bit slow), then after 2-3 seconds, the acceleration increases much more. Also the gearbox kick-down is a bit sluggish. Could this be the MAF sensor?
