1994 SL - Soft top won't retract help....

Hi forum,

just came back from a great drive down to Zurich and back in my SL280, had the soft top down for most of the 2k miles covered. Driving back through France we were hit with torrential rain so stopped under a bridge to put the roof up, no problems... get back o UK and went to put the roof down yesterday and for the first time since then and it wont retract.

The motor seems ok as when I push the button forward I can hear the motors working for the closing opperation but when i go to retract it the red light (on the soft top open / close switch) just flashes and nothing happens. I checked all the fuses and they are ok, the only thing I can put this problem down to is possibly water getting into the sysyem when the we were driving in the rain but this is a long shot.

Has anyone else had thsi problem or have any ideas or advice on getting it fixed?

Just to add that the "auto window down" on the passenger side is also playing up.. so perhaps this is effecting the soft top retraction procedure as the windows are automatically dropped when you retract the roof. If the roof is not getting the signal that the passenger window is auto dropping then I guess it may not operate..?

I had an oil leak on a hydralic pipe and the fluid leaked out, i noticed the fluid behind the front seats on the carpet, I was lucky and just needed to tighten a nut.

The soft top can be erected manually, see the instructions in the handbook.

Have you tried resynching the windows? I think you just lower both side windows and keep the switch pressed down for a few seconds.
