Now that it seems that DAB radio is to be forced upon us, does anyone have any bright ideas about where / how to fit a DAB antenna to an SLK ('old look' R170 2003 model)?

Are the Blaupunkt internal windscreen antennae any good?

The obvious places for an external antenna would seem to be:
Boot top - but there would be cabling problems with the roof fold mechanism.
Roof top header rail just in front of the folding section - but is there sufficient space?

Any clues, anyone?

In the US MB added an external antenna to the left rear wing due to complaints of poor radio reception. This is the side that the bumper antenna connector can be found so if you were to by a US R170 antenna you could mount it there.

There are also DAB convertors that allow you to recieve DAB on the FM band.

Thanks. Unfortunately there don't seem to be any DAB antennae sold which fit the standard US M-B antenna base location.

DAB-to-FM transverters don't really solve the problem as they still require an antenna. Plus they look appallingly cheap and nasty.

Diplexers which attempt to use the standard FM antenna for DAB are very inefficient and produce poor results.
