Hi,

Ordered my new C63 on Friday with the following options:-

Iridum Silver
Black Leather
Command
Telephone pre-wire
Parktronic
19" wheels

I am not sure whether to bother with the following:-

LSD
Harmon Kardon

Are these essential options?

I decided against the performance pack as I will not take car on track, but is the LSD worth it for road use?

Thank for you opinions

i think the perfomance pack is definetly worth the money the car feels better gripped to the road with the sports suspension.

less wheelspin with the limited slip diff.

the suede steering wheel is fantastic to hold.

the ceramic brakes are great at speed.

the harmon kardon sound system is fantastic it was specialy designed for the car.

i think you should add both of them 2 your spec.

ive had both one with a performance pack and without and there is loads of differance in my opinion wouldnt order another c63 without it.
some people say that the ride is realy hard with the p-pack but i couldnt tell much differance to be honest.

great choice of car by the way absolutly amazing cars when does your car arrive?

hope that helps

None of these things is essential.

A desirable combination might be 18" wheels with LSD, if they are available together.

+ 1 If you want to drive at the limit on trackdays etc then the LSD is a must to get the most from the car.

I take it you are talking about the LSD as a 'stand-alone' option rather than the full 'performance pack'? So as you said you aren't going to be using it on track, I probably wouldn't bother too much with just the LSD; I've heard reports they can be a little noisy, so why put up with that if you are never going to make the most of it....although that said, it could help come re-sale time.

I would definitely go with the Harman Kardon, it sounds great in all the Merc models and if you ever get bored of the phenomenal sound of that exhaust, it would be mad not to have a decent sound system to listen to. After driving a car for a long time with it, and then using one without the difference is really noticable, the standard sound system lacks any real depth.

I am now seriously considering ordering a new one, only problem is that I have to wait till September(I have no patience frown )

My spec would be pretty simple:

Iridium Silver
5 door estate
command
parktronics
privacy glass
18" wheel (I prefer the 18"s over those 19"s )

The std stereo is more than good enough IMHO, but each to their own I guess...

I've got the Harmon Kardon and personally i think its money well spent as much as you will have the windows open at every opportunity to listen to the exhaust note which is great, on a long drive or when its raining the upgraded Stereo is good to have.

Are you aware the car comes with Bluetooth as standard?

Maybe ditch the Telephone Pre Wire and put the money towards the Harmon Kardon?

Would you consider Palladium silver? Harrogate MB have a 500 mile used example that may suit......

Other than a cradle connection in the armrest and an external aerial what else does the Telephone pre wire give you?

I have the Pre Wire on my car and i have just had the new I Phone Cradle fitted so i get charging and also there is a lead on the side of the cradle you can use for Audio Interface but i have the Ipod Intergration already so dont use it.

I dont really know other than a cradle to charge your phone that you get any other advantage??

Although loading all my contacts was very easy with the cradle, i guess you can do it without though?

The only other benefit of the pre-wire is the use of the ariel on the roof of the car to boost your phone reception.

Not a fan of the aerial on roof, it is not painted is it? Just black plastic.

Think I will drop it off my spec.

I have never taken my SL500 on the track but I wish it had a LSD. In damp conditions when pushing on I should imagine it would make a difference even with my diminutive 306bhp: with 469bhp I would have thought it quite desireable.

It is painted I think, doesn't matter of you have pre-wire of not, the aerial is always there.

Yeah you're quite right, I just checked the rest of my C-Class stock and they are all black, never noticed it before. They are body coloured on every other car in the range!! I guess you could always have it painted.

Yeah the aerial does also house the GPS antenna, but even if no pre-wire or COMAND is specced the aerial is still there, I guess the hole in the roof is present on every bodyshell.

Dorchester's going well thanks mate, it's a lot busier than I expected it to be, but I guess that's got a lot to do with the current market. Just finding it hard to buy enough stock at the moment!

i'd drop the pre-wiring as the head unit phone connection is good anyways. get the media interface instead, that way you can plug in usb sticks/i-pods+i-phones and also a standard 3.5mm jack socket so anything with earphone output can be attatched. performance pack with lsd is a must, although don't forget to have the diff oil changed at 3000miles to keep up with the warranty stipulation. harmon kardon is also a must, especially if you have audio dvd's which have un-compressed audio files - the sound is crystal clear!!
