After much deliberation, I've taken the plunge and opted out the company car scheme and bought myself a new daily driver.

I decided on an '06 C320cdi Estate Avantgarde with Sport Pack. Iridium Silver, black leather, nav, privacy glass, and xenons.

Looking forward to picking it up tomorrow.

Good choice sir, my 1st Merc was a very similar car but with only the 180k engine and I really enjoyed owning it, I imagine the 320cdi will be a treat!

hell yeah

my route to work is all fast, single carriageway A Road...overtaking nirvana and the 320cdi is in it's element

really like the car so fat

Op, I notice you own/have owned a 520d, how does the C320cdi compare for you - I ask as i nearly bought a 520d touring but went for the Merc instead, even although I've loved my Mercs I have always wondered if I made the right choice.

The 520d was a nice car. 80% of the time, 177bhp was enough and the overall dynamics of the car were great..it seemed to shrink around you in the twisties and really come alive.

320cdi is quite different though. Feels much more muscular, more of a driver's car imho.

Depends what you want really. If you look at my history, my last 2 cars have been an auto 520d and a manual 335i and I liked both but wanted something that feels somewhere between the 2 - hence the C320....more overtaking punch than the 520 but more refinement and waftability than the somewhat manual 335i.

Just noticed, you went for a 180k though. I had a 180k saloon for a couple of weeks before the 320cdi. Gotta say, the bigger engine is the defining characteristic of the 320 (it's immense) for me...without that, I gotta say that you made the wrong choice as I'd take a 520d over a C180.

Ah, no, I was actually considering the 520d m-sport touring when I was getting rid of the C180k, and instead ended up with the E220cdi which performance wise is similar to the 520d at around 170bhp, but a different drive altogether, emphasis on waftability and cruising rather than a more sporting drive which suits me fine anyway.

TBH I really liked the 520d, but I couldn't get my head around how low spec the BMWs seemed, nearly every car I looked at had no leather, no satnav, no parking sensors etc, and even so were a couple of thousand more than top spec E-classes so Merc got the sale in the end.

I do think I'd also go for the 320cdi engine next time, I made the wrong decision there for sure.

I moved from a 1.6 Citreon Picasso to a 320 clk and it scared me on my first run out but now total delight.
