Helloo

A friend of mine has a 2002 C200 Kompressor, he tells me it's a 2.0 litre but I think Its a 1.8.

From what I can find it looks like Mercedes never put a 2.0 supercharged engine into the 2000-2007 Class.

Is this the case?

Many thanks.

He's wrong, C180k and C200k in essence have the same 1.8 supercharged engine, but the C200k has an additional 20bhp or thereabouts, for which Merc charge about £100 for each of those 20 bhps on the new list price smile

Could be either, they went from 2.0 to a 1.8 in '02. If it's got a red cam cover it's a 2.0, black & it's a 1.8. 2.0 was fairly rough in comparison to the 1.8.

I thought all of the C200 kompressors were 1.8L's, the old C200 (i.e. non-supercharged) may have been 2.0L but if the OPs friend has as stated the kompressor variant it should be 1.8L?

On the first of the 203 C Classes the C180 was a NA 2 litre & the C200Kompressor was a supercharged version, pretty sure they didn't do a non kompressor C200. Once the 1.8 was introduced the 2.0 was no more & all the 1.8's were supercharged.

"From 2000 to 2002 the C-Class range started at the lower end with two 2.0-litre petrol engines. The C180 had a 129bhp version of the engine (later upgraded to 143bhp), while the C200 had a 163bhp version. These were both thirsty and were replaced from summer 2002 by a choice of more efficient supercharged 1.8-litre engines offering 143bhp and 163bhp and much better fuel consumption in the C180 Kompressor and C200 Kompressor."

Being a 2002 car it could be early 1.8L or late 2.0L, but IMO if it's a kompressor it's 1.8L, if not it's a 2.0L, unlikely it's both 2.0L and kompressor, don't think that configuration existed.

I sold them from 01 to end of 04 & remember having a 200 Kompressor Estate as a demo on a 51 plate (pre 1.8 engine). As you say C180 was 2.0 129hp, but C200's before the 1.8 was introduced were all 2.0 Kompressors with 163hp.

Funny you should say that, it's been bugging me now and I've been trying to find details of the C-Class model history online and I did find that there was a C200 kompressor (2.0L), but it may only have been in 'T' guise, i.e. the estate, does that sound right?

to the OP, just enter your friends reg no. on the government 'taxdisc' website http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/appl...
it'll give you engine capacity

No, was definately Saloon, Estate & Coupe. Thinking about it I'm 99.9% sure the only non-Kompressor 4 Cyl Petrol was the original C180, everything since has been supercharged (apart from the new 180 & 250 CGI's turbo's).

Mercedes names are very confusing, they often change the capacity but leave the name as it is (e.g. Current C180K BlueEfficeny is now a 1.6) or change the name but leave the capacity the same (e.g. B170 is 1.7 but recently got rebranded B180).
