Is there any news on either of these models? I rang a local dealer recently and he said there was a couple of orders for each on his books (assuming they make it to production). Currently have a letter of intent for an AMV8 but am starting to wonder.... (see AM www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=116105&f=70&h=0 ) Any info would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.
No idea how accurate the information is, so I'll just redirect you to the ItaliaSpeed website that claims to have the lowdown on the Brera.
Elsewhere on the site, they also mention the 8C and 2005 in the same breath

Brera-inspired 2+2

Due to its similarity to the concept, the name of the production car is currently being referred to as Brera
Indeed. The Brera was only ever a concept car, but it would be nice if the styling was carried over intact into the GTV replacement.
I'm a little suprised at the 4.2 V8 option, as that would seem to be stepping on the 8C's toes a little, but hey! Who am I to complain?

Im sure the concept had gullwing doors, though I doubt the production model will, which is a great shame, but I must agree 400 bhp sounds well tasty! Some rough prices would be a help too, as my letter of intent with Aston for the AMV8 is looking dodgier by the minute (and would be non-existent if we did get the gullwings!)
Hmmm, I'd be suprised if the Brera has the 4.2 litre V8 option. This is, after all, "only" a replacement for the GTV. I have read, in various magazines, that it may have a 280bhp twin turbo version of GMs new 3.2V6 (GM and the Fiat group are now sharing some engines/chassis - the next Corsa and Punto will be cousins). I really hope it keeps the concept cars styling, although the scissor doors are bound to bite the dust due to costs.
The 8C is another stunner. This is is tipped to run the V8 and produce 400bhp. I'm betting LHD only though, and gawd knows when it'll be on sale for sure.
I'd hassle your Aston dealer if I were you. These Alfa's are gorgeous (especially the 8C, which is more in-line with the V8 Vantage), but they ain't Aston's -that car is SUPERB

Cheers for helping to clear that up.. I have to agree that the 4.2 V8 will be reserved for the vastly more exciting 8C, and the Brera will get the GM engines and lose the scissor doors (thanks for pointing that out, not gullwing!). I had never thought the 8C would be LHD only but this seems highly probable now you mention it, which will probably exclude it from my list of possibles which is a great pity. Of the two the 8C will run the Aston closest, though from the motor show pics the interior isnt a patch on the AMV8's, though as I said, cost is a major deciding factor. If the Brera does become the GTV replacement you would expect it to be priced in a similar bracket though I would pay another £5k for those doors! Lets hope we hear some more of either Alfa soon, and hopefully some prices/spec.
Looking at the 3.2 engine size I was assuming it would be the Alfa V6 engine. It would be a shame if it became the GM lump because those Alfa V6's sound just glorious! My wife want's to replace her 2.0 Spider with a V6 and my suggestion is to go for a 3.0 V6 second hand now and keep it for 18 months, then get the new Brera based Spider 3.2 - she's just not sure about the face lifted Spider 3.2 hence the second hand 3.0 idea. Rich...

Looks like its morphing into a 2-door 156 rather than the striking and sexy coupe the concept was

My thoughts exactly. Been watching the developments and must say I am highly disappointed that the lovely Brera is being homogonised into the new GTV/156. Scissor doors gone, the only thing it looks like they are keeping is the lights... a terrible shame.
That only leaves the 8C now, only 1000 worldwide and all (possibly) LHD. Far nicer than the Brera mind, but I'm glad I still have my name down for the AMV8
