If he can get the car onto Top Gear, you're away!

It does look very balanced (esp. with Chris driving thumbup)

PS the lads had a good result in the Macca!

And so would I under those circumstances - alone on a track smile.

BUT
You wouldn't sensibly want to use it as a weekend car on the road as it's caged and harnessed.
You wouldn't want to risk taking a car of that value purchase price out on an ordinary trackday.
You can't race it.
When or where else could you get full enjoyment from that enhanced replica?

It's a great creation but at around £230K you could get yourself an original (and appreciating) GTA and/or a ........... ?

Which I actually think is quite reasonable for such a lovely thing. Do they still start at 65 or has there been a step jump up across the board? What does 65 get you?

for me it would be ideal as a trackday toy, if it were 50k rather than 200k! spent all night admiring the build photos on the alfaholics site tho :-)

Think of it in terms of speccing a new car. It depends as to what you want, as to what the cost mounts up to.

As I understand it, due to the sheer amount of time that goes into the body work & paint, this is around the price of a hot hatch. You can then add carbon panels.....

I'm rebuilding a "nord" 2 litre at the moment, and the costs soon add up. Take a twin spark, add steel bottom end components, induction system, MoTEC ECU and you're approaching £15k+.

Then add in several 000's of suspension, retrimming, brakes, etc. You can of course pick what you feel is required. If you think any of this is expensive, look at Singer, Eagle, etc. All much of a muchness from a cost perspective.

You also have a donor car to consider, which are steadily appreciating....

Why would anyone buy a Lister Knobbly "replica", or any of the above cars?

If you substituted "I" for "you" in the above post, it may be more applicable?

my friend has a 200bhp mk1 cortina with a similar level of prep, running on DTA, jenvey throttle bodies, coil overs, its a proper flying machine. his labour of love, stands him at probably £20k max but thousands of hours in bodywork, building the engine, mapping etc. all done himself. he'd get £30k max for it if for sale. realistically if he had time and i chucked him £30-40k he could build a similar spec alfa, if a good shell and car could be had. there is deffo a "singer tax" being applied to this type of car, lovely as they are.

" thousands of hours in bodywork, building the engine, mapping etc. "

To quote shakespear, therin lies the rub.

At £50/hr, even one thousand hours is £50k. The GTA-Rs are rumoured to have >2000 hours in each car (at a higher chargable rate).

Oh absolutely I'm not querying their labour charges you can see how much work went into it.
I'm a bit shocked at £10k and £20k for built bare engines to be honest knowing what you can get out of a 2 litre Zetec when done right but you are correct to point out that Labour costs are a major part.
Fair play to them for finding their niche and doing it Well, they deserve a good result for all their hard work over many years.
It gives me ideas for what is a favourite classic car shape and what could be done, potentially, on a lesser budget perhaps. Who knows a lottery win may happen and I'll be straight on the phone :-)

Anyone know what nicely sorted cars fetch generally after a standard type restoration rather than one of these beauties?

You've failed to read and/or chosen not to quote the first line of my post, where I do say "I" rolleyes.
