On my way back from lunch I pass a scrapyard, as I approached it today I saw the back end of an x1/9 peeking at me over the hedge

Cue quick swing in there, keys are in my hand and im giving it a look over - battery was too flat to start it (going back tomorrow!), but its straight, underside looks pristine, even the headlights popped up. Some very light cosmetic rust, biggest thing is its missing the front valance

If it runs at all im having it

Oh, and

I had one of those

Early 1500....taught me how to MIG weld, and that its very difficult to 'catch' the sliding back end of a mid engine car!

I loved it. Most comfortable seats of any car, anywhere, great steering, brilliant throttle response and they love to rev.

Great cars....do it!

I had one of those for over six years.I wish I still had it!If you want any genuine fiat parts try Bayless in Atlanta Georgia. They give great service, & are way cheaper than Fiat uk prices even after postage!I had a London Stainless, "Quick silver" exaust on mine.Along with twin 40's & K&N's,& it howled!Watch the handling in the wet though they tend to push the front end out a bit!Supreme handling cars though,& set up properly, they go very well,& will rev forever on that five bearing crank.I wouldn't mind another. If I could find the right one.

My poor little exxy didnt make it all the way home I think its first proper run in who knows how long gunked the fuel filter up something proper and she gradually lost power and died. No smoke, going back tomorrow to rescue her.

ps. on a 1 to 10, how much of a hairdressers car is an x1/9

Depends on how it is driven. Plenty of 70s F1 drivers have owned them as cheap run arounds. The late owner of Fiat used to drive one every day (and I do mean *drive*). None of the above really count as hairdressers...

Would you call an Elise a hairdressers car?

You lucky b'stard. I loved my X1/9, but rust killed her. How on earth did a straight solid one end up in a scrappy?

The full v5 is still in the post so I havent spoken to the previous owner yet to find out the full story. It seems not entirely impossible that the car used to belong to the landlord at my local pub...

Ive lined up some time off to get her a bit more sorted out. I was very impressed when I was emptying it out of junk this morning - the only leak is where there is a tiny hole in the nosecone!

I definitely have a complete nose for one from when we chopped the whole lot of the race car. This is of course assuming it hasn't been thrown away...

Was informed today of another one for sale in good nick but I think they want a bit more for this one...

I had on of these and loved it. Better with the original front rather than the american legislation crash zone one that ended up on the later cars.

First job if I had it would be to check the voltage regulator isn't the mechanical type. (can hear buzzing in the engine bay) up on the wall. If it is change for an electronic version.
