any idea what temp the thermostat opens on a 156 2.0ts ?

sorry no
....but run the eng.till its hot
see temp.gauge go up to around 80
feel the hoses on both sides of the thermo
feel the rad.top and bottom if the hoses feel hot + nearly the same your thermo shuld be open.
you can not test the thermo in a hot bucket of water,it also has to be under pressure.
