GTV - Pre purchase gearbox question

Hi All,

Have found a nice condition GTV 2.0 for sale, only problem is the gearbox won't go into 4th.

Does anyone know if this is a common fault? what could casue this problem? how much would a gearbox rebuild or recon box cost me?

Also can anyone recommend any specialists that could sort the problem without major expense.

Could be the clutch slave cylinder - a relatively common fault and relatively inexpensive to fix.

hi mate!
check if red brake warn light is on on dash! the brakes share the same resevoir as the clutch! if on,check the resevoir level(left side of engine bay at back!)if low possibly a leak from slave cylinder !! this happened to me,got worse til i could not select any gear! have a good look for leaks!!! alfa quoted £220 to do work! i bought the leaking slave cylinder for £40 and fitted and bled it by the roadside in the rain in 40 mins!! no worries! hope this helps mate! dont just fork out to alfa a fortune when you dont have to!it aint rocket science!
