I think the main disappointment is that the concept car looked like a modern day GT, fast, sexy and in her 20’s. The production car is a ‘Hatchback’, fast, plump and in her 40’s

Aww, what have they done with the Brera Concept? This new one looks bang on a competitor for something like an Audi A3 3.2 or similiar. I like my coupes as coupes, not as hatchbacks, even though I'm a hatchback driver myself. The 8C competition is old news ladies and gents, I first saw the concept ages ago, and was dissapointed to hear that it would likely be powered by only 400hp. In my mind, what we need is another Iso Rivolta - high powered beasty beautiful italian gruntmiester super tourer GT thingymabob - but with an italian engine, rather than a yank job (not that I wouldn't have a corvette mind, wallet permitting). So yeah, I'm a little but dissapointed, Alfa. However, I may reconsider if they'd be willing to swap it for my resident shopping trolley...

That's exactly what disappointed me so much.
The back could be a Subaru or something else...
Not very special.
However I didn't say that this car wasn't beautiful.
It's just not as gorgeous as it should (and could) have been.

True. Seems to be treading on the GT's toes more than a little, though.

The GT is only a short term image boosting model anyway as it is based on the current 147/156 floorplan which won't be around for long. The GT will probably disappear or be priced downwards in a couple of years. It was expected to be a 147 Sprint but the current pricing doesn't reflect that, but I suspect it will once the new GTV/Brera comes on line.

The triangular back window and strip lights is classic Alfa!! I think it looks pretty close to the concept back end:

I say hats off to Alfa for getting as close to the concept as they appear to have done and yet keep the price at current GTV levels.

Yes its slimmer and taller and doesn't have "those" doors, but otherwise its an amazingly close translation of the concept into a production reality. Name me one other gorgeous concept car that has made it to production at mass-market prices unaldulterated...

Hats off . . . looks like a car to want.

I'll be beat to death for this: do I see hints of the new Astra?

All the same, it kind of restores faith in Alfa. Everyone always said they had to make the Brera. Just a shame that they had to change it a bit first. Still, I suppose that means that I'll acutally see one on the road!

Just hope thay make the 8C... That truely is the most stunning car I've seem since...EVER!

According to the Alfa press release, the new Spider will share the platform but will feature totally unique styling. That's good news - I always thought the outgoing Spider had lost some of its individuality looking so similar to the GTV.

a very close friend of mine is one of the desingers at Centro Stile Alfa in Milan. I can't see why FIAT group (which has serious financial problems) has to externalize the design of this car instead of using his designers. italdesign (giugiaro company) will cash a big cheque, paid by investors while Alfa will also pay the salary of all designers... and at the end...the car is beautiful but not original... it's just a more aggressive restyling of all lines of existing Alfas.

Stunning - it'd definitely force me to head for the loan shark.

However, time for a pedantic thread hijack. The new Alfa has not "debuted" and if you wait a million years you'll find it never "debuts". Why not? For the same reason that Alfa is not "headquartered" in Milan. It's because there's no such word. It's an Americanised language bastardisation of the highest (lowest?) order. A car can make its debut, but it never debuts or can have debuted. I regularly used to point this out to the assembled Yanks on the Ford marketing team when I was doing their PR. And they always responded with an amusing combination of vacant expressions and incredulity.

Ah, I feel better now...

Do you mean this one? I'm looking for some better pictures but they seem few and far between, so if anyone has any can they post them here? Rich...

That's 2 different cars/concepts pictured there.
The top one looks like a roofless Brera.
