All I can offer is you will get a much better APR rate now on a new car, than on a one year old - plus interest rates are likely to go up over that period. If you can get into it now and go via Meridien Milano - they are very helpful in finding a way to make it affordable! ; )
This is my thinking.
There are some great finance deals on new vehicles at the moment. A 1 year old car could be initially cheaper but the savings wont be so big if the finance package isn't as good.
Unfortunately, there is no way it's happening until my wife goes back to work at Easter.
My thoughts are, save as much as I can until then for a greater deposit, if the right used car is out there and I can finance it competitively then I can go that route. If not, it'll be a new one.
I think a 1 year old car could be mid ~ high £40k by Easter. That's a considerable saving on a £60k new vehicle.

There are already a few cars around at £52k with 5000m on them one year old on PH.
that's a massive saving already if you can avoid picking one up with issues. Why people get rid within a year is beyond me, big hit but i am aware of one car being returned due to unresolved issues, or sold to a different dealer etc.
I have been looking across the forums and all I can see at the minute is a problematic wiring loom location. Anybody else know of any outstanding issues..?

Ecu filling with water under scuttle is the one at present but nothing major I've seen otherwise.
The one i test drive was faulty first time, battery went flat and they jump started it and freaked every bit of ecu warning available.
Was sorted for 2nd test drive tho

I've only had 2 issues, the alarm is over sensitive on default setting - adjustable by the dealer while you wait; I just can't stop finding excuses to drive it! I'm sure I will find something over time, pretty much every BMW, Audi, Porsche, Jag I've had had something, but that is what the warranty and dealers are for. From 4+ months ownership & 6,500 miles use I would say my car is behaving itself very well, well above average for a car in this class.

No regrets at all in getting my car, makes me smile far too often for that! biggrin

Likewise (and the alarm, although mine seems to have settles itself). 2 months in, still get comments on the car on every trip, especially the school run where it sits amongst Ferraris, Porsches, Lambos, Astons and every model of SUV under the sun.

I'm planning to buy a Giulia V6 ( either new or very low mileage ). The first stumbling block, though, is the failure of my local main dealer to respond to any of my emails re :-

A. their taking my present Alfa as px ?
B. can they arrange a test drive ?
C. can a sun roof be fitted in the carbon roof of the Guilia.

On the px question, what is more expensive - a 156 GTA Sportwagon against a saloon ?
Also, is a used 156 GTA with Selespeed more desirable than the same car with a manual
box ?

Definitely a no to the sunroof, but a yes to everything else.

If you dealer won't, every other dealer will.

As said by others.

No to roof.
156 sportswagon higher value than saloon due to lower numbers
Selespeed theoretically higher value but not necessarily.

Odds are you are better off selling the GTA privately and then buying from the dealer.
What part of the country are you in?

There hasn’t been a recurring issue with some early batch cars regarding the turbo wastegates which cause the car to go into limp mode.

Those cars suffering this have had the wastegates valves/solenoids changed under warranty.

Picked mine up 3 weeks ago.

Epic epic epic car.

Turn in is unbelievable, steering superb. Power is relentless and the sound..... well it's fantastic. Lots of drama. In fact find another car for this money that has anything close to the drama and sense of occasion whilst being able to carry 4 in comfort. Incredible. Turns heads - so many positive comments and thumbs up from randoms. Everyone loves this car and no negative connotations I've had before in BMWs. Did a lap of Nurburgring and some very high speed stuff on Autobahn last weekend and didn't miss a beat. Accelerates like a bat out of hell and faster than an M3/C63 etc, they then hit the limiter and you can keep going to >190mph

Yes the infotainment is not great (will be sorted once Apple Car play and Android auto come out v v soon), most dealers are crap (just order through a broker or carwow, save a shedload of cash in the process), and switches might be 7% worse than Audi if you read WhatCar, but if you let any of that put you off you are a complete fking idiot.

People comment on lack of button to open exhaust valves at low rpm unless you are in Race mode. I agreed with them that this was disappointing. However my perspective has changed and this car is much more exciting for the fact that if you want low down noise you have to put it into the mode with no electronic safety assistance. You are basically being rewarded for bravery. Those driving Mercs/Jags etc with loud standard exhausts are pussies, those driving Alfa Guilia QFs that are loud have massive kahunas. Alternatively just rev beyond approx 3750rpm and then enjoy the pops crackles and bangs on the overrun.

Will also do 35mpg on an eco run. Wow.

I'm ten minutes from Bedford. I'm sure you are right re the buying and selling methods,
But I'd rather take £2-3 k less from a dealer than deal with all of the tyre kicking test pilots out there

I'm fast approaching 3 months and 2,500 miles in mine and echo every one of your comments. Dynamically the car is incredible, knocking out 35mpg of a decent run, yet giving supercars a run for their money. Having first been disappointed by the infotainment, after 10 years straight in BMWs (arguably the best in the business), I've come to appreciate it's simplicity, and the pros outweighs the cons IMO.

I've also drawn the same conclusion on the exhaust. I contacted Celtic to look at getting the Exhaust fully open in dynamic. Put off by a hiked £400 cost initially I've come to appreciate the ability to drive around in Dynamic without sounding like a tit, but then getting the Ferrari-esqu bark as you get above 3k, and pops on gear change.

3 months in, it sets the new benchmark for the sector. Interesting to see how BMW & Merc respond with their next gen M3/M4/C63.

cant you get a button option to allow slection of the exhaust in full open? the QF i drove sounded stunning in race mode, i would want that in dynamic also. i have a vacuum operated switchable exhaust on my R8 which its nice to have the option of while retaining the traction control etc.
i did love the noise of the pops and bangs on the QF test drive!

No - it's possibly the only omission that puts it behind the competition. As I said before, I've come to love the exhaust opening, Ferrari style, above 3k in Dynamic, but for open exhaust all the time it needs to be in Race mode.

I think this omission was well planned in an Italian way. I.e. you will only get maximum satisfaction from this car if you drive it like your pants are on fire. It would have been so easy for them to put a button in, but they didn't. I respect them for that. This is definitely not a Germanic car. I love the car even more because of that.

my test drive was about 2 hrs around Derbyshire, most of it in full race mode/auto as i was enjoying it so much, windows down. never even looked at the stereo system. one thing i noticed is that although its fun in manual shift, the auto was so good i think you'd end up leaving it in auto most of the time!

I leave mine in auto most of the time. It's uncannily good. Even in N, if your mood changes and you start flooring it then the gearbox starts to adapt straight away.

Re the exhaust, you get the pops and bangs in dynamic, over 3500 rpm at least. However, it is possible to get an aftermarket remote exhaust valve controller should you wish. Or you can block the vacuum hoses and it will leave the exhaust valves permanently open the whole time.
Personally, having had one for just over 6 months, I'd leave it as standard.
