I would tend to agree.

My red spider I due back 2nd July and whilst I’ve considered the idea of extension I think I’m going to send it back on time with a view of saving and then purchasing a 50th edition spider (better wheels, carbon bits, better interior) in 2 years time. I’d rather invest the monthly cost into a car I actually own and can have as an investment in the future.

Yep, surely would have been in their interest to let people at least choose the colour, and maybe even the 5 hole wheels at a lower cost option. There is currently 5 black 'lease spec' coupe's on Manheim and one has already shown up on Autotrader. Feel like they are really going to affect prices when they all hit the used market!

I'm keeping an eye out for mine in case it's a good price, however one concern now is that the service is overdue by 4 months - this will mean that the remaining warranty will be invalid
I’ve found them very reliable so you could bid them in the Gentleman’s parts as it has no warranty or get a quote for a private warranty and tell them what it costs when you bid , if it’s the second service it only has 8 months left

Thoughts on Leasys' end of lease options? I don't agree with any of them...

Due back end of this month. I've enjoyed my time with it but also looking forward to the extra money in my account next month.

Extension to keep you mobile in these difficult times

We can extend your current finance agreement, offering you a 10% discount on your current monthly payments for up to the next five months. Mileage allowance will be increased accordingly so that you can continue to use the vehicles whilst main public transport is disrupted. During this extended period, you may return your vehicle at any time without incurring any early termination fee, should the current situation return to normality earlier than the 5 months extension and offices and storage locations reopen.

Should you wish to extend your agreement for longer than 5 months, please email our contracts management team and we will be happy to assist you.

Purchasing your vehicle

In these extreme circumstances, we would be willing to offer your family also the possibility to purchase the vehicle should you have the need to. Please email our used vehicle department providing your registration number and current mileage and we will be happy to give you our best possible quote.

If an extension does not meet your requirements

We would ask that you email us a picture of your vehicles mileage on the contract end date of as above or if this has already passed, please email us today and keep the vehicle safe, secure and in a roadworthy condition. Once collections re-commence, we will arrange inspection and collection and providing the mileage on the inspection matches that of the picture sent to confirm the vehicle has not been in use, we will terminate your agreement of this date.

Returning your vehicle to a Designated Site – City Auction Group

If you would like to return the vehicle to our designated drop-off site located at Mitchell Rd, Rockingham, Corby NN17 5AF. We do ask however, that you notify us of this intention and preferred date & estimated time by emailing operations.uk@leasys.com so that we can advise City Auction accordingly.

Collection with fee

The final option is that we can request our Recoveries Team to arrange collection from yourself however, this will incur a £250 collection fee which will be invoiced to you on your agreement.

I don't want an extension as I'll be liable for second service, I don't want to leave it on my drive as it takes up space and I'll have to insure it still, I don't want to drive it 150 miles to drop it off, I don't want to buy it and I don't want to pay £250 to have someone collect it. Why should I pay £250 for something that was included when I signed the contract.

Now I'm not a complete ###hole and understand we are in difficult times but the option I want is the one I signed up for 2 years ago which is for someone to come collect it at end of lease with no cost to myself.

I would agree with you, both parties agreed to the contract and both should honour it BUT there may be a clause in the contract which allows them to do whatever they want, it wouldn’t surprise me . This sounds like a general policy so many others will be in the same situation so worth keeping an eye out on here in the more general forums to look for threads or start one.

A call to citizens advice may also help clarify

Mine goes back on 1st July and whilst I’ve considered buying the car I’ve no decided to bank the money and go for a private 4C or Elise 250 Cup in a year or two.

That said I too was planning on calling them and arranging a collection - for free. That gives me a real headache to try and get to and back from Corby in the current circumstance.

They shouldn't require you to insure it, I had confirmation of this a few months ago when I had collection issues for other reasons. It will be covered by their insurance at the end of the lease, and then by the collection agents when they collect it.

I know it's not ideal but I think your best option is to leave it on the drive and enjoy the nice ornament for a few extra weeks / months.

Yes if they can confirm that I don't need to insure it I'll go for that option.

I might see if they'll let me use the 2k miles I've not used but paid for, without any further monthly payments. That could work.

Would you need to service it though?

You have paid to lease a car for a period and not exceed an agreed mileage . Any miles you don’t use you loose , if you go over you pay extra per mile. The only way you can carry on using it is to extend the lease and then I’m guessing you will get extra miles on a pro data basis

Yes I realised that a few hours after I posted. Not really worth it as the second service won't be cheap.

Thanks for the education on how leasing works in a non pandemic 2020.

At the end of the day they obviously want me to keep the car a bit longer until they can sort all their logistics out, hence offering 10% off monthlies. Letting me use up my mileage allowance over next couple of months till it all calms down (servicing costs aside) seems like a sensible option.

Just a thought, as long as it's insured, and you are within the agreed mileage, what's to stop you from using it anyway until they come to collect it? How would they ever find out?

If the lease is extended I would have thought the mileage would increase on a prorata basis , if just saying your current lease worked out at 1000 miles a month then you should get an extra 1000 for each month you extend

They want a photo of the mileage on the agreed end date. Any good at photoshop!? laugh

The standard informal extension on these included no extra milage, just extra mileage at the agreed rate on the contract. Which was high from what I can remember!

Yep it says that in the email from them that I posted above.

My comment was that I thought it a good idea if they let me use the last 2k miles I've already paid for over the next couple of months without charging me the monthlies. That way I keep the car that they can't collect/store and they aren't really out of pocket. BUT then realised I'd be liable for the £400 service I'm trying to avoid. I can't see any COVID-19 statements from Alfa saying they have extended the service due dates like other manufactures have (Mercedes letting us go overdue by 6 months without penalty, so my A-class, also due back this month, is being informally extended for another 5 months)

I have - but this was in July of 2019 - if that's still relevant to your question.
