As I said, the Mangoletsi deal is outstanding. You simply will not lose your shirt on it.

Are there better cars for the money new? At what it does? Well no quite frankly. The new Cayman is actually closer to the 4C now with the silly little shouty engine but God it's an annoying thing. It's also 10k more.

The Exige is 10k more and whilst it is dynamically better than the 4C lacks anything like the sense of occasion. And you buy the 4C for the sheer Sophia Loren factor. Becker and Kershaw maybe akin to Gods, Italian Goddesses however they are not.

As I said, it looks pretty but its flawed! I still want one, LOL!

They are still rare so once production stops values will be no worse and probably better than many cars of that age

Simple rarity does not have that much of an impact on values. When they have been sitting around for so long those that really want to sell will drop prices. The deals available on new stock tells you quite simply that the market doesn't want them.

No, it's not flawed - it has different priorities. Dynamically not as good as something resolved by Becker & Kershaw is like akin to saying something doesn't look as good as a 250GTO or a series 1 E-Type roadster.

Anybody who drives an Italian exotic for its on road driving dynamics over its historical British counterpart is an idiot. They always have been, they always will be. Anybody who drives a British exotic over its Italian counterpart (apart from that narrow 15yr period of Jag history 1950-65) for joy inducing sense of occasion is equally an idiot.

It's a strange word flawed, esp when used by British motoring journos and enthusiasts, considering 98% of British sports car history has basically celebrated flawed motorcars, called them characterful and got on with it. I don't mind Germanic perfection, I run a Pork and just come out of two Mercs and whilst the AMG had a hilarious hammer up front, it was a one trick pony and it lacked true character. The Pork is just highly competent at what it does but competence never won fair maidens...

I think your spot on

It really is a Marmite car, you either love it or hate it, If you want a comfortable daily then get the Cayman or a BMW M whatever, if you want something you just want to drive & put a smile on your face get the 4C.

I think the problem I have is that I simply do not want a 4C badly enough. I have a totally impractical, hugely entertaining fun car, I have a comfy and quick barge, I have an M135i which a 4C would (very) indirectly replace but I'm really struggling to justify the monthlies on a 4C - I should listen to my head rather than my heart I think

I placed an order on one yesterday after deciding that after 20 years of dealing with the same Porsche dealership that I wasn't going to grovel any longer to get one of their halo cars after getting a one line email saying I'd been unsuccessful.
Fancied one when they were launched and never sat in or driven one, and because of my disability unlikely to either. Decided that I couldn't wait any longer and am looking forward to it. Totally impractical for my needs but I don't think I'll regret it.

Well thanks to this thread I now have an Alfa Red Spider sitting on my drive which was picked up at the weekend.

The first impressions are great, it really feels like an event to drive and gives me the same feeling as when I was fortunate to drive a McLaren 570 last year! Yes it is not as easy to drive or as practical as the Boxster it is replacing, but the experience and buzz you get from driving it is worth it.

Only issues so far is getting used to no power steering at low speed especially painful whilst parking and also the drone from the racing exhaust at motorway speeds.

Those two negatives don't go away. I've had my Anniversary spider for 3 months and 3k miles and both those points still grate when I get back in to have a blast. But, once you've given it the beans you totally forget any of those minor grumbles, it's such a fantastic drive. Full of character, sounds amazing when it pops and bangs and the wastegate lets rip, handles brilliantly on the road (apart from likes to dart around a bit). You never see another one on the road and it looks fabulous. What's not to love?

If you can't drag yourself away from the German breed of characterless car then you're not a true petrolhead.

Can't get a Gen 2GT3...pah...get a 4C and have a riot in it, guaranteed to make you laugh out loud.

Here's mine outside the Museum during a Euro road trip earlier in the summer.

If you want something to just get in and drive, you buy the Cayman.

If you want a bit of art in your life, and are prepared to make sacrifices around comfort, handling and performance, you buy the 4C.

I don't think anyone is actually suggesting the 4C is a better car to drive than the Cayman.

It's not sacrifices , quite the opposite and many think it's better to drive BUT as with all cars it's personal choice and certainly not worth an endless debate

In hindsight, I think I agree. It could be said the Cayman is a more "polished" drive and the 4C is more raw? I think it's been shown that a Cayman S is faster round a track, but then the 4c isn't really a track car? Clearly a V6 Exige would be far quicker than both but again, not the point.

It's a stunning looking car which is fun to drive and quick to boot. As a Sunday toy it would be perfect. (especially a Yellow Spider!)

I still want one, LOL smile

I think in the right hands and that's not me it's a great track car, I did the full GP at silly stone in my last one and it wasn't that quick , I then asked Mike Wilds to take me round in mine , Reslised I can't drive and it's a flipping quick car. It has the record for the fastest sub 250 BHP car on the Nurburgring so it's no slouch and that's without a remap . I just love its rawness and yet it's also gorgeous . it's the girl you always dreamt of dating but I guess it's down to who you dream of dating .

This video of 4C manufacture is fascinating. They are practically handbuilt. I can't imagine Alfa are making any money on then at all!
