Just after a rough guess really.
I can't remember what the twinspark was like, and am just wondering what the combined for the 2.0ts and the 2.5 v6 is like...

Am I right in assuming the V6 has a 6 speed box so isn't that bad.

I think we normally get about 33mpg with mixed driving in the 2.0 TS

Economical compared to the 17mpg of my 300ZX

The 2.5 comes with either a 5 or a 6 speed- but the 6 seems to be more popular.

A friend just picked up his 2.5 last week, and he thiks he got 31mpg from the first tank!!! Thats nearly as good as my 1.8 when I behave!!! Realistically though, it will probably drop to 25mpg.

No - the 156 V6 was only available with a 6 speed manual or a bizarre 4 speed (4!!) automatic called Q-System.

Typical mpg for a carefully driven 2.0 is low 30s, against mid 20s for a V6. Either of these will, of course, plummet at the drop of a hat as neither unit is especially torquey (especially the V6) and they need rowing along with lots of revs and noise.

Now let's not have any more embarrassing mpg questions.

Sorry rick, It just has to be better than the BMW's 18mpg....but then again that does have an unburstable 4.4 ltr V8.... which frankly will take some beating....

18 is not so clever really is it, so I'll let you off.

See if you can get a go in a 2.4 JTD. Don't go off on an anti-diesel rant, just have a go and see what you think and make your own mind up.

The JTD would be ideal Rick, I don't really have a problem with diesels, especially the common rail jobbies......There is a nice red one on ebay at the moment, no leather though....

Think I may look at 166's though....ta for your help on the other thread.

I spent two weeks in a brand new 166 2.4 jtd last month in spain (paid for a 147 and it was all they had available - i didnt complain). Was a great drive and sounded very good, even at such low mileage.

Shame that engine isn't available over here in the 166 or GT.

It is. Another great idea from Alfa UK.

It's due to be made available in the 159 and Brera though, I believe

Well, here are my experiences with the 2.0TS so far. On my first long run from Fleet to Carmarthenshire (190 miles, most of it on the M4) I got 22mpg but I admit I was "playing" a bit. On the way back, in my best motorway cruising mode I got 27. Last weekend, 300 miles to Leicestershire and back, I got around 29. So either I'm getting better at something, or the car needed a bit of a run-in after probably sitting on a forecourt for a few months.

I used to get 23-25 ish from my 145 2.0TS. Low 30s is about the best you will get from a carefully driven 2.0 on a motorway cruise.
(Downhill).
