So I am finally narrowing my shopping list down and the 595 is on the short list along with a few others.

I have been able to sit in a 208 GTi and a 595C this weekend (I have to say the Peugeot, whilst nice, is a bit weird inside and I don't mean the tiny steering wheel. It just seems to have loads of empty space up front, like they could have made a thicker dash and higher center console, any way I digress....). The 595 is likely not as accomplished as the 208 or Fiesta ST, but I can see it being 100x more fun.

My main worry with the 595 was fitting inside and being seated comfortably. Well, I can fit (in a C at least, presume the head room is similar in a normal one?) so that is a good start. I also found the seating position fine, yeah its a bit high, but i pumped the seat down to its lowest and I didn't feel like I was sat in a clown car with my knees around my ears.

So next question is finding one.... The one I sat in was a base 595C, 140 hp. After copious research I think a Turismo is what I'd be after (though I would have to try a competizione just to be sure).

I do like the facelift over the previous version I must say. But equally, you can have a pre-facelift, year, year and half old car for 2-3k less in some instances which is hard to ignore.

So what are the differences? as far as I can see, beyond the cosmetics, there is a 5 hp bump from 160 to 165 and that is about it? Still has Koni FSDs on the rear? still has the TFT LCD dash board etc. I did read the 165 bhp engine is the Euro 6 version? and that it has more power and better throttle response?

Also I see a lot of cars have the 5 inch display... is it any good or will I be served just as well by the standard stereo? (I don't need sat nav).

Finally, I see a lot of the new face lift Turismo's sporting leather gear knobs and rubber pedals. I thought the Turismo got the metal shifter and alloy pedals? And that they were in a pack supplied to the dealer to be fitted to a Turismo? Or are they optional extras?

Many thanks!

OP - We went for the Turismo version some of months ago. Spec wise, they come with quite a bit. The only extra on ours was the sat nav. The aluminium pedals, gear knob and sills are included as part of the pack. Also comes with an aluminium fuel cap, oil cap + BMC sports filter.

Our neighbour recently purchased a comp. I have to say, it does make a right racket and would imagine after a while, that noisy exhaust would start to grate and get on your nerves.. Also the suspension is allot harder than the Turismo. I would only consider a comp as a weekend car, as DD, I think it is a bit too extreme..

I understand that the later cars - Turismo upwards, have the bigger turbos..

Our has been great overall, 2,000 miles in, very fun to drive and every outing feels like an occasion.

If you go for the cheaper model you can haggle in the dealership to add a few shiny bits from other cars. I had no problem getting some parts swapped around at no cost. As to exhaust, I added PowerMotiv with remote control to my car and a remap from 140 to 190. I updated the brakes and added Koni as well, but you'd be getting those anyhow (mine is 2 years old).

So is yours a facelift?

I guess all those Turismos, like this one:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...

needs a question to the dealer about where those parts you mention are if they haven't been fitted (shifter, pedals, air filter, caps etc). Suspect that if it hasn't got the knob and pedals it'll be missing the rest of the kit. I read on some forums of dealers forgetting to install the Turismo kits because they don't come out the factory wearing those bits.

Really I am just after if I am losing much be going pre-facelift (though I reckon I can wait a bit for prices on the facelifts to drop a bit more. Its not like they're disappearing any time soon).

Yes ours is a face lift version. We had to wait around 1 month after the car was delivered to have that aluminium kit fitted, so I imagine many people just forgot about it and never had it fitted, as Abarth always appear to be in short supply of this kit..

As mentioned face-lift model does have the bigger turbos, do not think base car has it. This does make difference in drivability.

Will do, though I am stuck at the moment so can't get out to look at any for about 2 weeks!

I am coming round to the idea of a late series 3, so 15, 65, 16 plates that got registered around the time they stopped orders in prep for the series 4. From my research as far as I can tell the vast majority of the changes are cosmetic. Extra 5 hp, but the torque is the same and so is the acceleration. Plus you can get one for 2-3k less quite easily and there's more choice out there with low miles.

I am not fussed about having stuff like satnav, like the new one has. I think the new one has cruise control as well? not sure... but I won't be needing that either really. Can't actually decide if I like the look of the S4 over the S3, I thought I did but its hard to place. I quite like the more restrained S3, and I like the coloured dash panel (its only matte silver in the S4). Steering wheel is nicer on the S4 though.

I think for me it'll be a Turismo. Everything I hear about the comp is that its a weekend car; its too hard and sabelt's too uncomfortable and the exhaust too droney to be used as an every day machine. Especially for me as I'll be doing 16k just going to work, so it needs some semblance of comfort.

OP - do research on the engines also, as I am sure I read somewhere that series 4 cars have the more superior/bigger Garret turbo's, older cars have IHI. I could be wrong..

We're also looking at getting a series 4, either Turismo or Comp, would be the wifes daily for her 10mile A & B road commute every day.

I know they didn't have it on the S3 but has the S4 got keyless entry and push button start yet? I know in the scheme of things it's a small point but the last few cars the missues has had has had it so kind of get used to it.. (ooh the hardship of having to get your keys out your bag to unlock and then also put them in the ignition & twist!!)

Do not think they have keyless entry.. As said before the comp is a bit extreme, if not a weekend toy..

I've had a 2017 Turismo for about 6 months now. i spent a lot of time deciding between the Turismo and the comp. I spend my time in London and Oxfordshire so the comp was just too harsh on the road. The seats in the Turismo are more comfortable in my opinion. It is a mega little car and I can't fault it. It's just like driving a go-kart. The suspension is on the right side of hard, but not harsh. It wants to be driven fast and sounds great, the Monza exhaust on the comp can get pretty loud in the car. The Tursimo comes with plenty of kit as standard, though I did opt for nav, for resale.
Just got a new plate for mine, picture below.

I'll have to check yes. I am not too concerned though so long as it drives fine and I am not waiting eons for the pick up. I don't think I'll be into modding/upping the power. It'll stay stock. Yes the S4's Turismo/Comp share the same Garret made turbo charger... the only difference between them is software.

I've just ordered a Turismo as my daily driver. Not coming until January, but I can't wait, was great fun on the test drive. Dare I say it, I almost enjoyed it more than my M4. Have gone light on spec, circuit grey with black stripes and the Beats hifi. Oh yeah and red leather, did think about nav, but I rarely would use it so didn't make sense financially.

Any reason for the long delivery times? I was told 8-10 weeks.

Yep, I didn't want the car until then as my current one goes back in the first week of January. They are going to store the car for me as they expect it at the dealer in the first week of December.

Slow... Haven't had much chance to go looking to be honest and there are precious few (of the age and type) I am looking for within an hours drive. Just need time. Also just proposed to my other half so I am broke as a joke hehe not to worry.

A place called research group have a nice little selection and get good S3s in from time to time. They're in Nuneaton which is a bonus as it'll be near where my new job is (hearing back Monday! So fingers crossed it all pans out).

We're in the process of upgrading from a Series 3 595 (140) to a Series 4 595 Turismo (165) right now.

The S4 Turismo is fitted with the same Garrett turbo as the S3/S4 Competizione, whereas the S3 Turismo has the same IHI turbo as the base S3 140.

The interior should have the Alloy pedals & Gearknob fitted, the one we tested did have - wasn't aware of the Alloy fuel/oil cap though, so if we get those it'll be a nice bonus!

There is a huge improvement in drivability between our 140 and the 165, it's much more eager and responsive too.

The ride is also noticeably improved with the rear Koni FSDs installed. The S3 140 ride is pretty harsh to be honest, it can be pretty bumpy.

S4 Turismo comes with other niceties too - Leather (very comfortable), nicer wheels, BMC Filter, parking sensors, tinted rear quarters, drilled discs, blah blah. It's definitely a nice update compared to the base model, especially the S3 models too. The S4 across the range also has a proper glovebox and much better cupholders! Ha.

If you are buying new do confirm the spec with the dealer as cars have been coming through from the factory not as expected by owners.

Back in April / May they changed items that were standard to options, including auto tint mirror and xenon lights.

They have also changed the mats and finishing kit (I believe the alloy oil cap is no longer a feature.
