I have just bought a nice 2006 G Punto Sporting 1.9 Multijet for my 'second car' ( my other car is an Alfa 156 150 JTDM with a slight remap to 190).

The plan is to use the Fiat for my daily 70 mile commute up to Gateshead ( mainly motorway/A roads ) and to keep the miles off my favourite car, the 156, which has had a lot of money lavished upon it in the last few months...( underside 'de-rusted and rustproofed', all new front Alfa wishbones, Brembo discs/pads, new DMF/clutch, Cambelt kit, Eibach rear springs....etc etc ! )

I want to keep the Alfa for as long as possible ( its got 150,000 miles on it now ) so the Fiat may be a decent option as a daily driver. They were both styled by Giguario ( spelling !?), and even though the Fiat is over 10 years old, it does not look dated really IMHO.

It has a few 'niggles' due to the battery having been replaced prior to sale; these will hopefully be sorted out next week at a local Italian specialist when the fault codes are addressed.

Only had the car a couple of days, but it has basically the same engine as my Alfa ( apart from it's an 8v (?) I think, as it's only got 130BHP... it is quite nippy and handles well. And it has a 6 speed box which is quite low geared, so great on the twisties, but tends to rev a bit too much on the M-way.

A couple of questions...

1)Anyone know the official title for the colour, its a lovely blue but not really metallic.

2) I would like the 'Bluetooth & Me' to work , mainly for music that I have on my Apple iPhone 4S.

Reading the Fiat handbook for same, ( it is a 2006 car) it appears that the iPhone is not of the list of compatible Bluetooth devices.
When I try to pair it, the phone asks for a code, but I cannot find any reference to a code in the booklet etc.
It seems that the Bluetooth & Me is a Windows based system, in which case I may need to go another route as Windows/Apple don't usually get on ! ( ie it has an MP3 USB socket in the glovebox )

Any suggestions/advice welcome !

Can't answer any of your questions, but - nice purchase, that will do you nicely, won't it?

I have to admit that when these came out, for whatever reason I always thought they looked quite smart. Keep us updated on your ownership experience, eh?!

On my wifes's 2013 500, Blue N me only works for phone, doesnt do audio streaming. When you pair the phone to the car the 500 displays a code you need to input to connect, imagine it's similar in the Punto, allthough we are android not Apple. There may also be an after market option available to you to allow audio streaming (or you can plug your phone into the aux in) from someone like xcarlink (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XCARLINK-SKU2208-FIAT-USB-SD-MP3-INTERFACE-FOR-PUNTO-INC-GRANDE-PANDA-500-/181255224873) My son uses one of these to play songs from his Iphone in his Fiat Stilo

Thanks for the replies.

Got the error codes sorted today so that's good. After doing some research on the Blue & Me it seems that in order to properly pair my iPhone 4s to the car I need to get an Adaptor from Fiat that cost about £60...

So unless I can find a second hand one on Ebay, I may just use the USB port to play music from a Memory Stick; this seems to work OK.

Getting near to using the first full tank of diesel so I should be able to see an accurate mpg figure. I am hoping for about 50mpg, but it's probably going to be less !

OK... Had the Punto for a couple of weeks now, and used it every day for the 70 mile round trip to work. So that's nearly 1000 miles already !

It really is a great little car...a true 'sporting' hatch. I have noticed a couple of things in particular though: the steering , as has been well documented, is very light in standard mode, so much so that I never consider using the CITY switch on the dash.

And the car is so low geared ! It has the 6 speed box, which is great to use ( much more direct than my Alfa 156JTDM ) as it has a narrow gate and short throw, but I have never driven such a low geared car !
That makes the acceleration excellent, but a bit noisy at motorway speeds, which is where it spends the majority of the time. In fact 6th gear is OK for anything above about 60mph, where the torque means that it is fine for overtaking, so not much need to change down a cog.

I have decided not to pursue the Blue & Me route, and will make do with the USB Flash drive loaded with my music in MP3 format: it works very well and can be controlled from the steering wheel buttons.

Next job is to improve the headlights, so will try out some H4 LED bulbs: never used them so it will be interesting to see how good or otherwise they are !

I put a set of Osram Nightbreakers in my wife's Evo. They made a big difference and cheap too.
