Virage vs DBS

Looking at moving from Vantage to DBS, but then for a little less money I saw a Virage.

DBS is up at £89k, 41k miles, Virage is £82k 2011 with only 8.5k miles

I suspect ( from my other thread ) the DBS will do better value wise over the next few years, but the low miles Virage is tempting.

How different are they, and is the higher mileage DBS a good bet?

I suspect the DBS is the better car drive wise, great GT car and does feel very sporty in sports mode. I didn’t miss my v8 4.7 sportspack when switching. I’ve never driven the virage and although it’s pretty car, the DBS has more presence in my opinion.

Value wise again I think the DBS is a safer bet, sure the virage is a rare car but it’s never really been that popular. For me I never really understood it, it was like AM had squeezed the virage into an imaginary gap between the DB9 and DBS that didn’t really exist. That said, I’ve never followed the prices of virage closely...

I've had a Virage for a couple of years. It's a great car, has much the same spec as a DBS (20" wheels, switchable suspension etc.), plus some upgraded switchgear over the DBS. Granted, it's missing 20 bhp and a few carbon fibre panels, if that makes any difference on the road. Also, if you ignore the fact that it's basically a 'new' DB9, in terms of rarity value, there are relatively few cars with the Virage badge.

Virage for me. Rarer, nicer interior detailing, same CCM brakes, cheaper, newer, and DBS with too many miles.

James Witton of this abode had a Virage for about 12 months , he should be the one to ask for a bit of friendly advice.

To state the obvious the Virage is cheaper now than a dbs for a reason

The DBS has the halo of being a high profile Bond car and an Aston flagship (top of the range) so is commanding a premium because of this. The Virage is certainly a rare and appealing Aston, but if you follow the logic of value, ability and appeal remember it became the..."New" DB9, which was in essence an improved version of the Virage. You can have a 2013 13k mile DB9 for around 78k... like this -

This! Totally agree, a newer DB9 is even better than the Virage.

I'd also be asking myself how many miles I intend to do per year, as the DBS already has 41k. If it's just a couple of thousand per year, the DBS would be a safer bet as most of the depreciation has happened. But if you intend to use it, you'll take a hit as it'll reach higher miles soon. The DB9 on the other hand can take another 15k miles and not loose much money...

Thanks for all the comments. I also notice my local dealer has a 2013 DB9 itch 18k miles around the same price.

Going to have to try all 3, maybe stretch to the 93k 21k miles DBS

My only concern with the DB9 is whether it will depreciate down to 60k in a few years or hold its own.

Can I fit glass buttons to the DBS ?

The DBS is the safest bet from a depreciation point of view, but you also have to remember that the market is now very top heavy (particularly for Ferrari, some Pork, etc) and also likely to move downwards as demand wanes post Brexit. There is no doubt that the DB9 will continue a slow slide downwards. The Virage is very rare but the fact the DB9 looks the same and is the better car means Virage is a great choice only if the price is right (ie considerably less than the 9).... Although long term the rarity value may come into play.

Just my 2pw, having tried all Im back in a DBS, true the "Bond factor" influences me but its a great all rounder and looks are still sublime AM in my eyes...
Dont be afraid of the higher miles (within reason obviously, 40-50k if serviced on the dot and well cared for isnt an issue to them, ccm's / ad susp / fabled body areas etc - check carefully)....
The Virage looks great but will likely always sit beneath latest DB9 in value... Rarity or not.
Final decision - what floats your boat the most when you see it every day....
