It looks like my 4C Spider is going to need some new rear tyres soon.

Any thoughts on what to fit. At the moment they're Pirellis, and I think they're "racing tyres" - but I don't know what that actually means.

Are there special Pirelli tyres I should get, or standard Pirellis, or should I get Pilot Sport 4S.

Thanks

Racing tyres comes with the race suspension. Have you got that?

Yup - definitely got race suspension.

I am thinking I should put the same tyres on, but I have had a set of Pilot Super Sports before (on a totally different car) and was massively impressed. I believe that PSS are now called PS4S.

Get the michelins as the standard Pirellis are terrible.

The michelins transform the car.

PS4S aren't available in 18 yet only 19's.

So if you can get the Pilot Super Sports

That's interesting, how does it transform it ? I must admit I've thought the tyres as fitted std ( not the race ones ) do feel lacking & on the one track day I did at Donnington didn't give me a lot of confidence to really push, I will add I'm a seriously average driver so not confident to be able to scoop it up if it lets go

What sort of milage are we reckoning? Ive had 15,000 out of my rear PZeros and they need doing this week. I was thinking the P4 jobs as everybody raves, but is it raving from the track slag crowd or from ppl who actually drive road cars on the road? Do they shift water, do they last longer an Alfa salesman promise?

More grip. More confidence on rear end, better turn in. Less noise, better stability, less tram lining.

Night and day on the Pirellis.

That sounds a great recommendation , when the tears get low I’ll get a set of 4

The PS4S do supersede the PSS but they aren't available in 18's in our sizes yet. So at the moment you can still order the PSS.

£580 all in delivered from Camskill

So....10.5k hard miles in and I'm in need of some 19" rear tyres before it gets real slippery - the Pirelli ARR tyres are way past their best.
Assume Michelin PS4s are the ones to go for?
May also change the fronts to Michelin PSS so the car's not an understeery mess.

Anyone else swapped to Michelins? Better than the Pirelli ARRs?

Cheers

From previous experience I had a 911 with P-Zero tyres fitted and that used to tramline with them so I'd never buy Pirelli again. When mine need replacing I'm going Michelin.

I put the P4s on the rear at 18,000 miles.
I still have the original PZeros on the front at 28,000 now. I’m somewhat amazed at that!

Anyway, I live in the middle of farming Devon and the front is still sticking.
The P4s on the rear shift the water just fine and can get some power and grip down on the muddy lanes.

I've pretty much decided to put PS4s on the rear and PS4 on the front.
The reviews of seen of PSS is that they're a bit slidey at cold temperatures

Costco have them on offer - £40off a pair of fronts, £50off a pair of rears.thumbup

Fitted PS4s on the back on PS4 on the front - light and day difference compared to the AAR tyres in this cold weather.
Tramlining much reduced, more grip and quietersmile

Interestingly the tread width on the front PS4 is 10-15mm wider than the original tyres.

PS4 on the rears and the front Zeros are now finally giving up at 30,000. Last week was seriously dicey in the torrential cold rain! New PS4 205/40/r18s ordered and going on this weekend.

The front end has been very lively the last week or so! The rears haven’t missed a trick at all with the PS4’s on. Super tyre!

I have the standard racing tyres, and in my opinion they are dangerous in anything other than warm and dry conditions. I had a huge twitch in a straight line.

Not thinking of winter tyres as such, but something that I can use all round without taking away the character of the car.

I rang the dealer and they "are fit for purpose"

Alfa, it's never their fault, it's always user error.

I’ve also had a few moments in very slightly damp conditions.
Will be changing mine soon.

And in this particular case for once Alfa are correct, they are entirely fit for purpose.

I ran my Zeros for 18,000 on the rears and 30,000 on the fronts. Until th then last month and the serious serious weather she was always well behaved and planted. Yes, my instinct is the PS4s are better, but it’s not a massive amount.

And chaps, I live in the middle of farming Devon, the road to even get to my road is a mud and crap shod semi rally track 10months of a year. Everything after that is largely a gravel rally stage and I don’t even go sideways on the gravel!

So in other words chaps - pull the other one.

I’ve a pair of front 18” AR racing tyres with 5mm of tread kicking around. Spare since I swapped to Michelin PS4 / PS4s all round.

Rather than bin them, any use to anyone?
