I’m going the other way. Sold my LE last year and got a Ferrari F355 GTS manual. Absolutely fantastic car and it’s everything I’ve wanted it to be for the 20 odd years I’ve been listing after one but it hasn’t replaced the gap the Alfa left in my life so I’ll be looking to let the F car go at some point next year and get another 4c to hopefully keep hold of for a long time
Interesting perspective. I guess the change to F355 means you weren't changing for the same reasons as me though. I want more speed (on track), hydraulic power steering and more luxury in the interior (full alcantara). I'd also go for a 570s spider for a folding hard top. Plus owning a McLaren full stop is a dream I'd like to fulfil.

Anyway.. new front brakes (pads and discs) installed on the 4C yesterday, ouch. Wasn't expecting to need discs as the car's only ever had one set of pads, but Alfaworks found that the discs has formed wavey ridges, so we decided to replace it all.

I also had them install the black powerflex lower engine mount bushing. Highly recommended and inexpensive (about £30). No significant increase in vibrations through the car, but everything just feels better. The engine actually gave me a little kick in the back when I cold started the car this morning, loved it.

To all of you hankering after a 570...do it!

I had a 50th Anniversary car and absolutely loved it, I have very fond memories of it but they are flawed in the driving department and the poor interior. I spent two years convincing myself they were the best cars out there but in reality there are much better. I'm not trying to put them down at all but when you move to another marque like a McLaren that's when you come to realise the issues. They are great value to buy and run and look amazing.
I moved to a 570S and quickly moved to a 600LT Spider, these cars are on another planet in most area's but then their respective running costs are too but life's too short to get too hung up on the extra costs of a hobby you love.

Very jealous of the 600LT Spider. That's a car that I feel like I could keep forever if I had one. Just ticks all the boxes (except the 'cheap' one lol).

I'm interested to hear more detail about your experience moving to a Mac. Was your 4C modified or stock? By flawed in the driving department, I assume you mean the wayward steering or something else? They are definitely flawed down a bumpy B-road, but as a track toy they track like an arrow and provide all the feedback. Have you had any "McLaren niggles"?

I think comparing a 50k Alfa to a massivly more expensive mclaren is a compliment to the Alfa. It won’t be as good but I would be cautious buying a car from a relatively small manufacturer that currently has debts of around 1.3 billion and are trying to sell expensive cars into a flat market , unless they sort themselves out or someone like Elon Musk decides he wants a sports car manufacturer their future is less than certain

My 4C was a lease 50th Anniversary car so bone stock and really good value over the 2 year term with 100% reliability which I was expecting with previous Alfa experiences.it went back in May 2019 after just 8k miles out of the 12k allowance.

Standard issues were steering, exhaust drone and lack of storage space inside. My wife disliked this aspect and the exhaust noise and didn't want to go in it at all but I loved it for what it was warts and all.
I tracked it once and as you say they perform really well, the steering is no issue and it was great fun with excellent performance, good grip, feedback and stable handling until you get to the limit and then can get a bit wayward.
I did attempt to buy the car from Leasys but they were completely unrealistic with the value and wouldn't budge,I remember the car sitting at Manheim auction for a long while and no doubt it sold for a lot less then I was prepared to pay.

It was at that point that I looked for something else and it needed to be different and not your run of the mill sports car, after having a car like the 4C it had to be something special and I ended up with a relatively high mileage 570 coupe bought sight unseen from a McLaren main dealer. I had a major issue with the car on my way home from collecting it when the bonnet flew open at about 50mph whilst accelerating away from the M6 tolls but I managed to stop without incident and still able to secure the bonnet and carry on home. They don't have a safety catch and I'd somehow hit the bonnet open switch whilst reaching up to pay the toll, the car shouldn't of gone into gear but it did and I pulled away oblivious of an open bonnet and no warning sounds either.
McLaren agreed a full repair at their cost and part from that it was perfectly reliable after it was returned but it was never going to last long after that happened so I sold it at the end of last year and bought a new 600LT Spider. This has been faultless in 4k miles since January and that bonnet incident hasn't put me off the marque at all, this car is truly amazing almost a massively grown up 4C but with space inside and steering to die for. With exhausts exiting just a foot from your ears it's always going to be noisy but it doesn't drone which was the main issue.
If anyone's passing Lymington your'e welcome to stop by.

May I suggest you read their latest financial report, it reads better than your summary.

No i changed as I'd always wanted a 355 ever since I first saw one in a magazine all those years ago amd my ducks finally all lined up at last. I dont regret selling the 4c amd getting the 3t5 at all as ots been everything I ever wanted, I just see the 4c as providing 99% of what the Ferrari can provide but for a fraction of the costs involved. In some respects it's probably able to offer more, took the car out today and whilst attempting g to reverse i to a nice big parking bay some stupid girl stood in the way, refusing to move amd saying I can park somewhere else instead as there were plenty of other spaces. Honestly, what is wrong with people?? I doubt that would have happened in the 4c

Isnt it mandatory to have a bonnet safety catch?

You could always buy a pair of those sporty rubber catches they used to sell in car accessory shops.

Just 5 minutes with a 2.5 mm drill and a few self tappers to secure the mounting brackets - and no more fly-off bonnets.

I used to swear by them on my Mk1 Escorts.....

Yes for doors, not sure its actually a requirement for bonnets... however its bloody stupid and dangerous not to have one on a front opening bonnet, i'm genuinely amazed

11 in total which is where it has been for a short while. Spiders in the right colour / spec are like hen's teeth!

I'm glad I decided to hang onto my Spider, spent ages trying to find one with the dark teledial wheels, carbon side intake, carbon rollover, leather and the right exhaust. I wanted rosso comp paint and yellow calipers but that was being fussy.

The problem is now I am on my way to 7k miles in it and getting a bit worried to drive it.
Probably the only thing that would get me out of mine would be a spider but it would have to be right spec

Mileage doesn't seem to affect values too much so long as you are not doing excessive miles per annum

Mine is on 26k as previous owner used it as a daily, I have just done 1k in 12 months

Was close to 20 when I last check a few weeks back. Down to 9 now both coupe and spider combined. This is going to be a good support to the residual value.

To be honest I can live with any spec of 4C. Sport exhaust is a must though.

Alfaworks exhaust imho is better than the sports exhaust so consider that if you find a car without a sports zorst
