Just contacted my local Abarth dealer to arrange a second year service to be told the cost is £400+. Is this the going rate? I am in shock!! What do other people pay?

Sounds about right for a main dealer service on one of their "halo" cars. I would certainly expect to pay at least 400-500 for a basic service at any main dealer for one of their top end cars (much much more at a BMW, Audi, Merc etc type dealer).

It will annoy you but my Fiesta ST had its major service a few weeks ago - £190 all in at a Ford main dealer.

A quick google suggests this is normal if not an extraction of urine! I would ring a couple of other dealers for comparison though, failing that a local specialist (Abarth, Alfa or Fiat) will be muuuch cheaper.

Surprised at the comments - had no idea that is actually deemed to be expensive, certainly wouldn't have raised my concerns if I'd have been given that quote. Oh well, every day is a school day!

I'm more surprised that people don't query every quote they are ever given and don't look for more competitive prices elsewhere.

If I'm concerned about the quote I've been given then absolutely yes, I would shop around. If I think it to be a fair price for whatever I'm seeking a quote for then it's just not worth the time as it usually only comes down to a small saving that either gets nullified by the time taken to get the alternate quotes or the additional cost involved to travel for the cheaper price. I know there will always be exceptions to that but if you don't think you are being ripped off just accept the price and get on with your life.

I like Fiat 500s but no way would I pay that much for an econobox service. I can get a full service on the Mustang for less.

This price was discussed on the owners club today (same poster) and was agreed that it was expensive and can be done for under £300.

There’s not much difference in price between a top spec Abarth and a bottom spec mustang, despite 100bhp more the mustang is only 0.1seconds quicker 0-62mph so not really an econobox.

I’m not sure how that helps with servicing costs but to join the top trumps here’s a fiat 500 running 400bhp+ https://www.pistonheads.com/news/general/400hp-aba...

Coming from an old M3 into a comp (when I find the right one) - those service costs are a blessing.

You can’t even look at an M car without it costing you a grand.

For clarity I am not the,"same poster" on the owners club. I am not a member of any Abarth club.

OH thought the Abarth service would be about £180. His Golf R service is less than the Abarth!!

Lotus services at a Lotus/Aston dealership are not so eye watering expensive.

Rang other Abarth dealers in other counties, got lower quotes so then rang original dealer to cancel my booking who then gave me a cheaper price which is £80 cheaper.

I paid £330 for my 2 year service on a 595 last year, was cheapest I was quoted. Most ranged from £350 to £400.
Prices around London are the worst.

I find the Abarth servicing costs at a Main dealer fairly ridiculous. Having been quoted similar for my 4th year major service I did mine myself last time round seeing as the car is out of Warranty and Abarth are not known for good will outside of the warranty period.

Total cost for all the genuine parts and selenia oil was £103 delivered from www.shop4parts.co,uk, took me all of 1.5 hours on the drive with nothing but normal hand tools, a jack and stands.

A fully equipped workshop with Abarth trained mechanics doing this day in day out should be able to manage this in an hour tops, so I refuse to pay out the best part of £300 on labour for what I consider an hours work.

Had my trusted indy not been booked out at the time they quoted £180 inc vat for the same service again all with genuine parts and oil.

Hi there I’ve just needed to book my Abarth for its second service £400. However they do a fixed price service deal. £399 for the next 2 services.
If you phone lipscomb Abarth in Ashford Kent they have just set mine up.

Ask for Dan Childs 01233 635661.

Then you can use it at your local dealer.
